Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019)

I tried Warzone for the first time. Got killed within 5 minutes each time. Never figured out how to do the Gulag without getting popped before I even knew what the heck was going on.

The issue (for me) is that the gaming world has really stratified quite starkly into people that are really good - or at least competent - at these types of multiplayer online shooters, and those of us that are really not good at all. For everyone in that first group, it's all good - there are a ton of options and lots of competition. That seems like it's most people, apparently, because I seem to be in a distinct minority in that second group.

For those of us that aren't particularly good at these types of games, it's a complete waste of time to play because the amount of time it takes to get decent enough to simply live for longer than a few minutes far exceeds the amount of time I'm willing to commit to playing the game. I'm not saying they should change the game on my account, but the barrier to entry seems to have never been larger.

I really think there need to be 'noob' rooms for people that aren't great but want to try to play the game. But there are so many other games I've been meaning to play, I think once a game doesn't immediately grab my attention, I'm ready to just move on.

It's working just fine, and I'm on PC (I use a PS4 controller).

I haven't yet tried to create a party cross-play nor do I know if it's possible, but I'd like to with my friend someday.

All but one of my friends have Xbox and we haven’t had issues at all.

Me and my buddies have been digging the Plunder (now called Blood Money) mode. More action the Warzone, thanks to respawns and cash extractions which focuses the combat on the same large map. Plus mad looting!

just got it downloaded. Is there a way to filter to only play against people your rank? I'm a noob, would love to play with some OSers. I want to just test and play people that are also noobs, not getting thrown in with people that are super high ranked, its no fun.

I suppose a "noob" room can sound good in theory, but someone still has to win at the end of the day. If you got shot down in five minutes by other beginners, what would be your issue then?

I understand that you're just explaining yourself and not necessarily complaining, but nobody jumps into these games an expert. Taking lumps is part of the experience. You acknowledged that you're not willing to put in the time to improve and learn the mechanics -- so there you go. I don't think a noob lobby would help you very much.

I've played hundreds of hours of PUBG and it took a while before I had a grasp of how to play effectively. And even then, sometimes **** happens in Battle Royale games.

You need to make your shots count, put yourself in ideal situations, and hope that the zone stops in places where you don't have to expose yourself for too long. Learning these things in PUBG has helped me in Warzone a lot. Had I not played that beforehand, I'm sure that this game would feel much more difficult.

And speaking of PUBG, I can't see myself going back anytime soon. COD DESTROYED this mode -- I'm having so much fun. I love how the Gulag and purchases play a role in the experience. They've got a winner for sure.

The last two nights have made me feel like a teenager gaming, lol.

In this quarantine I have actually had time to play some video games. My two best buds from childhood who were also my co best-men are not essential (lol) and are home. We finally decided it was time to game like we were 15 again. We have probably put in 13 hours of gaming in the past 48 hours, and literally are just playing Warzone.

We have a few dubs, but man, we all decided to bust open our old Twitch accounts and livestream and that honestly has led to some funny moments for us. We might be getting older, but I love that a video game can bring us together like they did 10 years ago.

This was a day 1 purchase for me.

I find myself hating this game a lot, but I keep coming back to it because the gunplay and mechanics are smooth. There's always something to do as far as challenges and grinding for the gun attachments.

All I need is Shoot the Ship 24/7 and I'll be super happy.

There is built in skill based matchmaking. Everyone seems to hate it, but it's supposed to be there to help new/bad players.

Good choice going with the PS4. Cheating is rampant on PC and Warzone is buggy as hell.

Play Blood Money/Plunder. You can learn the map and respawn as often was you want. Go looking for fights so you can get practice in. The top 3 money earners are marked on the map at all times. There is no Gulag.

As for the Gulag it's a one on one battle to get back into the normal Battle Royal game. You either spawn straight into a match, or into the crowd and wait your turn. Once you are down in the Gulag you have your gun and a lethal (lethal won't work for like 3 seconds). It took me a few times to finally get a win. I found just rushing the other person works best for me.

Well, of course there'd be a winner. I'm not saying I should be able to win. But I'm not a total COD neophyte; I prestiged a couple of times on the original MW, MW2, and the first Black Ops, so while I was never great, I have a working knowledge of how to play the game (although that was admittedly a long time ago at this point....). I suppose those multiplayer environments were different because it was a lot of killing/dying in a short span of time and this is a lot more like the modern battle royale games. I have also dabbled in PUBG, and while I only ever actually won a round once, I never felt like I was just getting nailed before I could even get my bearings.

It makes no difference to me either way, I honestly am not invested in COD catering to the likes of me or not. I'm just posting my impressions as someone who hasn't and doesn't spend a ton of time in the game (or in battle royale in general). It's obviously a different experience if you invest significant amounts of time and are into the battle royale style of games. Of course any game takes time to get good at, it's simply a matter of motivation, and this game - for whatever reason - doesn't motivate me to continue.

Presumably the game still has the regular 'old fashioned' type of multiplayer, though (?)

I don't know if it sounded like I was attacking you or not, but just to be clear, that wasn't my intent. I only posted because I had a hard time getting your logic.

You began by saying that you played a few games and got killed quickly in each of them. Then you explained that your problem with these games, in general, is that the skill gap is too wide and that you're not willing to invest the time needed to get better. In conclusion, you made the suggestion that there should be some sort of beginner area for players such as yourself.

My whole thing is that everyone jumped into Warzone as a beginner of some sort. Some may have had experience in similar modes, but we were all dropped into the fight and forced to learn as we went along. Warzone hasn't been out for very long, so we're still very early into its life cycle. I didn't know what the Gulag was when I first got sent there.

I'm not trying to convince you to keep playing the game, or to change your mind about anything. I just felt like responding to what you said.

And yes, there are still many of the old modes in the base game if Warzone isn't your cup of tea. I'm terrible at most of them, and like you, I don't have much interest in getting better. I just run around, shoot ****, and have fun.
