Re: Any Microsoft Flight Simulator Fans Here?
I'm so bad with landings. I have all the assists on and I don't even get prompted for help. I tried a flight from Cleveland to Buffalo and it had me cruising at 10,000, which is pretty low. I was in the AB A320. I figured 25K maybe. Then I had a hard time with overspeed. So it was a constant struggle to keep it at 10K and 250Knts.
I still don't know how auto pilot works. It doesn't tell me anything about it. It did all the checklist for me. I figured if I toggles autopilot on it would fly at the right heading. Anyone know what I might be doing wrong?
Also I always come in to fast and high for landings. I was actually able to do a touch and go and come around and land in one flight, but I've crashed it like five straight landings.
Sounds like for that Airbus flight you might have selected low altitude airways? It's always high altitude for the airliners. Either that or you didn't bug up to your cruising altitude on the autopilot panel once it reached 10k. You have to manually authorize the autopilot to climb higher or ascend by turning the knob to the altitude you're supposed to be at.
Anyway, the way it's supposed to work with the airbus (if you selected an IFR flight), is:
-put the throttle to TO/GA to take off until you get an indication on the screen in front of you that shows your pitch to move the throttle to climb. Throttle stays in climb until you are just about to land, and a voice commands you to "******" the throttle.
-approaching 10,000 feet roll the knob to whatever ATC says, or just roll it all the way up to the cruising altitude shown in that computer screen down by the throttle.
-above 10,000 feet the throttle will automatically speed up past that speed restriction of 250knots below 10,000 feet, and you shouldn't get any overspeed warnings.
-Similarly, when descending, roll that altitude knob down to whatever ATC says.
EDIT: the forum censored the word R-E-T-A-R-D, but that's what the actual callout says that prompts you retract the throttle to idle.Comment

FS2020 is everything I ever wanted. It brings me to tears. I first played the series with my grandfather in ‘98. If he were still with us today, the beauty of this game would have given him another heart attack. Morbid humor sure, but true.
Yes, there’s a lot of bugs and kinks that need to be ironed out. But it’s already a far smoother launch than FSX back in 2006, which could barely run on any system at the time.
I've seen some articles saying this game is too much for any current CPU's to handle. Anyone with a 10700k or comparable CPU wanting to provide their experiences? I know some of the specs some guys who have already posted have, but I don't remember everyone's.
I also cannot stop reading about this game. I am trying to limit the media I watch. The pictures are amazing in here. It's tough. The 3000 series cards need to hurry on out because I am anxious to experience this piece of art.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

To slow down for landing press F8 for your flaps all the way down and it’ll slow you down a lot. Just be careful not to fully stall the engines because you will lose a lot of speed.

Re: Any Microsoft Flight Simulator Fans Here?
It's not a perfect science, but you could look up the typical full flaps landing speed, and the max speed for each flap setting for the aircraft you're using. In most GA aircraft you'd probably want to be between 70-80kn and be ready to reduce to landing speed at about 7-8nm from the runway.
For airliners and jets it's generally 180/190-200kn at 10nm from the runway, and you're in good shape to reduce to your full flaps landing speed by 6-7nm from touchdown. Full flaps landing speed for the jets is about 135-160kn depending on he aircraft and payload weight.Comment

Re: Any Microsoft Flight Simulator Fans Here?
Ugh, my HOTAS order was cancelled even though it said it was in stock when I bought it.
You can't find them anywhere. I should have been more prepared. If anyone sees any in stock, I'd really appreciate a heads up.
I was looking at the official MS Air Bus one, it's out of stock but seems like it's getting good reviews. Maybe since it's MS they will have more in stock soon, but then I would want to get a throttle.
Has anyone used that stick?Comment

Re: Any Microsoft Flight Simulator Fans Here?
Having a blast so far.
Downloaded and loaded some user liveries for A320...
Started doing the landing challenges
(Completed the first 1 in Chile but am going to try and get a better score)
When stuff settles down a bit I'll be ordering some more stuff to go along with my Logitech Yoke system.
Current setup is the Yoke and throttle system, My G13 Game board with Engine and lights system on 1 page, Navigation on the second page and some other misc stuff on last page.
I still have my G29 wheel, pedals and shifter hooked up and assigned gear 3 as gear up and 4 as gear down.. it worked lol
It actually let me assign (like using KB keys) my pedals as rudders. Not as smooth as real rudder pedals but works well enough.
I have runway rudders set to auto anyways. Auto doesn't work when taxing but does on takeoffs.Last edited by Skyboxer; 08-21-2020, 06:20 PM.Joshua:

Re: Any Microsoft Flight Simulator Fans Here?
I'm actually surprised at how well this game runs on my system. I have 16 GB RAM, a Ryzen 5 2600x and a RX 5600 XT, and I can run the game on high settings with no issues. A couple frame rate drops here and there, but I am getting around 20 to 30fps consistently, which wouldn't be great in most games, but I think it matters less in a game like this. I also turned some of the details up to ultra and had no real issues.
Quick question, should I leave V Sync on or turn it off?
Now if I could just find a reasonably priced HOTAS.Comment

If you have a Gsync or Freesync monitor or 144hz, 165hz monitor turn Vsync off.Comment

After doing the OC and adjusting graphic settings (High on more important and medium less important I'm getting 45 to 120 FPS depending on where I'm at and what views.

What I am currently doing with V-SYNC because seen it online Lol
"V-Sync
V-sync is a setting that syncs every frame the GPU generates and eliminates screen tearing. However, turn this setting off in-game and force it through the GPU driver. Enabling in-game v.sync introduces stutter in-game for some reason.
However, disabling in-game v-sync also takes away the ability to lock FPS. Worry not, you can do that through Nvidia Control Panel.
To force it through the GPU driver, open Nvidia Control Panel > Program Settings > select Microsoft Flight Simulator and set Vertical Syn to “On”.
Recommended: Turn it off in-game and force it through GPU driver"Joshua:

Re: Any Microsoft Flight Simulator Fans Here?
I remember back in the day on Hewlett Packard cpu with flight simulator there was like a thick manual on how to actually understand all of the instruments.
Is there a site or resource available out there to where you can actually read to understand the cockpit instruments , proper checking and setting of instruments and for the communication protocols to use with the airfields?
I've enjoyed getting up in the air and landing but I am really interested in understanding and playing like a simulator rather than a video game I can relax in.
