Yeah it's one of the things I am seeing complained about the most people say it like gives you the answers to the puzzles. Oh I figured you would have seen the announcement trailer at least. I think I have seen about 10 machines so far to wondering how many of the machines are new verse old ones they brought back.

Re: Horizon Zero Dawn 2 Forbidden West
I'm taking a 'slow burn' approach with this game; about 12 hours in so far and I just hit the point where the rest of the map is unlocked.
Real talk - I HATE open world games. But something about how they do it with this series works REALLY well for me. They don't throw 1000 objectives at you at the first reveal of the map - I opened it up and it was like 4 markers. Will I "find" stuff along the way? Of course - but it feels far more immersive than just being handed an extensive checklist of "go to these 50 locations across the map to get item X" at the very beginning (I actually almost prefer avoiding Tallnecks for that reason and keep quest markers in the OSD at a minimum).
The other thing, they don't "gate" your progress to such a degree that you feel like you HAVE to do every single side quest along the way. Instead, they put you into character to a point where as playing Aloy, I WANT to help people I meet along the way and I genuinely want to help the world (i.e. keep progressing on the main quest).
The game does so much well. It's graphically beautiful. The music is great and the touches like the wildlife sounds (especially on my surround sound setup) just adds to the entire feel. I really like the combat variety and some of the new world navigation improvements they added (and I am sure I have not seen them all). The storyline and characters - it just goes without saying that it is already incredible.
One other little shoutout - there is at least SOME continuity in Aloy's development. Example: in HZD, she had to learn how to pick up items while mounted. For HFW, she knows that from the beginning. She has her overrides from the first game - she doesn't need to suddenly remember how to override a strider. There are some more advanced combat techniques she has to "re-learn" or arrow types she needs to "learn how to craft again" - but for super basic stuff, they did a nice job of balancing continuity without making Aloy feel overpowered from the beginning.
This may very well wind-up being my favorite game of 2022; it strikes a lot of chords very nicely for me.Last edited by JoshC1977; 02-21-2022, 04:43 PM.Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

Here I think it works since she grew up basically alone anyway so she had to talk to herself for company. It fits with who she would be as a character.
Also just a couple pics. I think besides Ghost of Tsushima, this is doing the most with a more expanded color palette in recent open-world games.Attached FilesI won't ask for Christmas or birthday gifts if you subscribe to the Operation Sports Newsletter (Not Just Another Roster Update). Re: Horizon Zero Dawn 2 Forbidden West
I'm an idiot, I spent the past 2 hours trying to dive to the bottom of a lake following the wrong thing. Of course I kept dying over and over again because Aloy can't hold her breathe. I thought it was a bug until I Youtube'ed it and found out I was following the wrong thing. And every time that guy Svlyn talk, I instantly think of The Wire.Comment

Re: Horizon Zero Dawn 2 Forbidden West
I have barely starts. I think I’m only level 5 and just getting into the open world stuff. My son just beat the game last night lol. He’d been playing a lot and beat it at around 21 hours apparently. But he did virtually no side missions (don’t ask). So he’s now going back and playing all of that stuff. He completed the first game and did all the DLC too. I had read there was 70 to 90 hours to complete everything.
This link says 86.5 hours for completionists.

Re: Horizon Zero Dawn 2 Forbidden West
So far the robot animals I hate fighting:
Kangaroo
Hippo
Giant hawks
I fought a huge giant snapping turtle robot. That fight lasted a good 10 minutes or more. The deeper you go, the more those robot animals be in herds and packs. At times when I scan an area and see 6 birds, 6 chargers, 3 kangaroo looking things and 5 of the scavengers all in the same area, I just run like hell straight through the area to get to the other side that I need to go through until I find an undiscovered campfire site. When you are out gunned, you just have to do what you have to do to survive.
I'm level 15 now and just made it to Plainsong last night. Going to have to spend some time getting resources because all the good stuff is so expensive.Comment

Re: Horizon Zero Dawn 2 Forbidden West
I am level 15 and have about 16 hours into the game so far.
For that time, my story progress is fairly minimal. I would assume as there is a whole lot of map left for me to discover. I love how everything you discover tells a story.
I like to do everything side content wise I can along the way. If I run into a group of robots, I will take them out because I can. I will spend an hour just hunting boars and raccoons as well.
The first game was amazing but this one is better. It is gorgeous looking and plays great. I have some sweet screen shots I took as well as opposed to progressing the story.Funkycorm

Re: Horizon Zero Dawn 2 Forbidden West
They had noted this before launch, but the side quest storylines are so much better than HZD. There are not many throw away quests that don't either 1. Give you a unique/useful piece of gear, or 2. Feel tied into the overall "main" storyline, or both.
It is such a subtle thing that makes the overall experience much better.
Also, the combat is so FUN. For me that is the crux of this game's appeal. A lot of the open world shooter games lose their luster because you end up just resorting to one playstyle to clear camps. In Forbidden West, I enjoy every machine/human encounter because you've such a laundry list of options to defeat them.
Needless to say, loving this game. I'm at the point where I'm grabbing 20-30 minutes of play anytime I can.Twitch: Goblue81188Comment

One thing I wish they'd do and it's not an issue exclusive to Horizon, but they need to stop allowing conversations to be cut off. Walking with an NPC somewhere then the conversation abruptly cuts because you reached your location or you encountered an enemy.
