    Re: Gotham Knights

I am just excited that I will have more time to play as Red Hood. He needs his own game. His DLC in Arkham Knight was my favorite part of the game, and it was tragically short.

I am also not buying that this is not a part of the Arkham Universe. It literally starts where Arkham Knight ended. While that does not mean it is a part of the Arkham Universe, it is hard for me to buy that it is not.

Yeah. Looking forward to playing as Red Hood. Seems like he has a strong hand to hand combat and shooting criminals with non-lethal bullets should be fun lol.

I agree it is hard to buy that it doesn't follow Arkham universe. You could flip it with Suicide Squad and it would make more sense.

I don't read much comics. But with the court of owls involved I guess Batman is trapped in the Labyrinth.

As much as I wish I did, I don't read comics at all. I randomly Google comic stuff when I want to learn more about characters story/stories. I'm probably what someone would consider a poser comic fan.

Highly recommend reading Scott Snyder's new 52 run of Batman. From the court of owls to his battle with the Joker, it's easily one of the best runs in Batman folklore. I was like you about 6 years ago but then bought that series run and now have a massive collection of graphic novels and comic books. Some of the storylines in the DC universe are incredibly written and well worth the read.

If you have the fortitude the Batman Inc storyline is really good as well.

Also highly recommend the Loeb and Sale stuff. Some of my favorites.

That was good read. I like what they are doing. It sort of feels like a soft reboot and this is WB Montreals take. The Arkhamverse is Rocksteadys baby, let them branch out that world into the larger DC universe. Kind of like how most of us figured the Arkham Knight early on I think most know that Batman isnt really dead. WBs games can be centered on Batman and the Bat Family which'll ensure we get the Arkham gameplay we like while Rocksteady is busy expanding the universe. It's a win win

                      Re: Gotham Knights

The way they describe the new combat sounds more like Devil May Cry than Arkham to me. I’m expecting light and heavy attacks and stuff like that, I don’t think it’ll feel like the trilogy + Origins but we’ll see.

Another interview, crucial with the damage marker toggle.

After the big announcement of the game, we spoke with the developers leading the project to find out what fans can expect in the wake of Batman’s untimely demise.

When you have four distinct characters, that means you have to reflect four unique playstyles that all work. What can you tell me about what makes each of these characters distinct, and compelling on their own within the game world?
Redding: For us, they aren’t supposed to be four mini-Batmans. They are people who have trained and have some of that crimefighting DNA as a starting point, but either through virtue of their story or just their personalities, they’ve started to evolve in these four distinct ways.
For example, our Robin, Tim Drake, he’s relatively young. He’s a teenager. But he’s still formidable. It’s just that his focus becomes more on stealth and using the tricks to disrupt the AI and confuse and apply status effects.
Conversely, a character like Nightwing – while he’s still very much a martial arts combatant – he’s a very acrobatic character. He’s more ping-pongy. It allows him to tackle groups of enemies.
There’s a flavor and stylistic support, that we wanted to provide. Every player, regardless of their preference for how to play, can approach it the way they want.
Marty: And that’s going to be even more true as you progress through the game. Those four characters, as they unlock abilities, and bring them to what we call their knighthood, the idea is that they really diverge even more. They are each their own version of a dark knight.
Redding: That’s reflected in the ability tree, and their gear. Because each of them has distinct gear, suits, and ultimates that they’ll unlock.
Marty: Batgirl has two sides. She’s the hacker. But in terms of her playstyle, she will focus on one enemy, and pummel them until they’re down. She’s super focused.
Red Hood is a more ranged focused character. Everybody can use some ranged attacks. But he’s a gunslinger, and has a more brutal approach to combat. What’s really interesting, though, is Red Hood’s evolution. I think it’s going to really surprise people. It taps into his storyline. He was dead, and was resurrected. And there’s something that is going to come out of there, and that he’s bringing to the fight.

                        Re: Gotham Knights

That's how I took it as well. In the videos it looks similar to the "freeflow" combat (which maybe is still the general idea), but the way they were describing the mechanics and making an effort to not say it's still the Arkham combat system should be more than enough signal to say they've changed things.

I'm still excited for this, but I think I'm edging closer to waiting until closer to release before getting hyped up. I've really enjoyed Montreal's work within the Arkham series (even if they are pretty much **** on for AO for some reason) so I'll leave them the benefit of the doubt for now.

I'm hoping they can actually deliver on unique character experiences beyond change in dialogue and combat styles. I'm sure the general story will be basically the same across the four characters, but I'm hoping for side missions (or even better: character specific villain mission arcs) to be different at the very least.

A bevy of Robins in here, too: Jason Todd, Tim Drake, and Dick Grayson. Wonder if they toyed with the Batman and Son/Batman RIP/Batman Inc storyline at all. I could imagine Damian being a very interesting (read: polarizing character), but also super ******* annoying in a video game if not written properly.

I always thought that it would have been cool to see the Arkham Knight/Red Hood take over as the new Joker to mainly Nightwing, but the whole bat family in the wake of Batmans "death". Theres a lot to unpack there and he has the added bonus of being able to go toe to toe physically with Knightwing.
