    Re: 2021 Gaming Plans

Well, I received the Xbox Series X this past Monday, January 4th and as of a few hours ago, I have completed the Gears 5: Hivebusters expansion and Watch Dogs Legion.

    COMPLETED
    - Gears 5: Hivebusters (8.5/10. Short but great expansion. Visuals are superb, combat/gameplay is Gears, audio is good and story/characters are great and enjoyable. A few cool action sequences as well. Hoping Gears 6 is basically an 8-12 hour version of Hivebusters.)

    - Watch Dogs Legion (7.0/10. Good game at best. Visuals are superb as is the Ray Tracing. Just wow. Music is fine. In car, it's mostly meh while during missions, it's solid but repeats. Story/characters are good on the antagonist side but protagonist wise, not good at all. Combat is okay as is the gameplay in general but I absolutely despised the setup of switching to all these different characters with their non-lethal weapons and just horrible voice acting. I simply completed all 45 story missions and that's literally it. No side missions, collectibles, side content, etc. Upgrades were also meh. So disappointing for me that I moved it to my last generation gaming lists because I simply didn't want it on my current generation gaming lists. Also, if Ubisoft doesn't bring back a vigilante character for Watch Dogs 4 (if/when that happens) and eliminates the gimmicks, etc. this series will be done for me. Same rating for me as WD 2 but ranked slightly ahead of it. The original 2014 Watch Dogs game is still the best in the series for me.)

    CURRENTLY PLAYING
    04/11 - Immortals Fenyx Rising

    BACKLOG
    - Assassin's Creed Valhalla (digital gold edition)
    - Bright Memory (digital, demo)
    - Cyberpunk 2077 (digital, waiting for the next gen upgrade)
    - Gears Tactics (game pass)
    - Marvel's Spider Man: Miles Morales (disc, base game)

    APRIL
    04/01 - Outriders (undecided)

Hoping to get through Immortals Fenyx Rising and Gears Tactics by February. Then, for the month of February, it will be all about Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Waiting on the next gen upgrade for Cyberpunk 2077. Will play the Bright Memory demo a few days before Bright Memory Infinite releases sometime later this year and hoping to have PlayStation 5 in the spring so I can play Miles Morales which by then, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart should be right around the corner.

      Re: 2021 Gaming Plans

The main game I am looking forward to is Hitman 3. I have enjoyed the first two, but I hope the third changes the biggest flaw in the game..

      No Platinum Trophy.

I plan on pre-ordering it within the next couple of days.

Other than that, I really need to make a dent in my unmanageable backlog.

Playing Ghost of Tshushima and I am simply blown away.

This may end up being my all time favorite game of the PS4 generation.

        Stunning, beautiful, epic.....not enough adjectives.

The fighting system is simply a dream for Saturday afternoon Samurai theater buffs.

        This is an amazing game.

Spiderman is great has really good soundtrack is emotional and so many different suits and also really fun combat. Tsushima I need to 100% still. I did 1 play threw doing almost no side missions. I am now trying to 100% it and I am far on act 2 and have put about 60 hours into it on this file. Its like around a 100 hour game I would say to do everything.

I keep seeing Horizon Zero Dawn pop up at $10 for the game and DLC.. amazing steal. I played and finished it a long time ago, but it really does pay to be behind on new releases because this kind of thing happens a lot.

Now Nintendo on the other hand will knock $5 off a first party title from 2017 and call it a sale.

                        Re: 2021 Gaming Plans

2020 was not a good year for me with new releases. The only 2020 releases that I really played were OOTP 21, F1 2020 and Ghosts of Tsushima...and Cyberpunk, but I wish I had far fewer hours into it than my steam profile suggests.

2021 as of now could be even worse for me, but it largely just depends on what gets finished this year.

Definite 2021 releases that I'm buying
                        OOTP 22

If it releases in 2021 I'll buy it:
                        Hogwarts Legacy
                        Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines 2

                        Maybe:
Outriders - If I can convince anyone to buy it with me.
Disgaea 6 - I love the series, but we'll see
Evil Genius 2 - Depends on reviews
Dual Universe - Dying for a MMO, so if the reviews are half decent then I'll probably pick it up.
F1 2021 - Depends on what they add to career mode

                        Currently Playing
Red Dead Redemption 2 (PC) - Finally picked this up on the Steam sale. It's been fun so far.
Total War Warhammer 2 - My most played game of 2020 and very likely my most played in 2021

                            2020 I don't think I finished a game despite a lot of spare time.

2021 I plan to continue playing things I was enjoying in the fall of 20:

Spiderman (50%) terrific game, glad I circled back to this after giving it the barest of attention when I first got it (black friday 2019)
Civ 6..will probably pick up some DLC for this
OOTP 21...spent a huge amount of time in a couple online leagues last year, currently simming the Reds 2020 and onward. Will probably get 22 but no preorder this year, 21 was a great version
                            PGA 2K21...great
NHL 21...ea play 10 hour trial, then will play a season once it hits the vault

Also, my son got me into chess over his winter break (reverse Queen's Gambit effect, he and I both watched it after the game obsession had taken hold)

When I finish Spiderman, Immortals Fenyx Rising is next up for that type of game, and Oxygen Not Included will tag in for Civ here and there.
                            Now playing
                            too much
Nobody Saves the World, Total Warhammer3, NCAA14, ootp

Big news to start the year: I got a new desktop with a GeForce RTX 3070 Graphics Card. It has to be at least 10 years since I’ve had a new desktop computer. I’m looking forward to getting through my PC backlog more than anything else this year. I’ve playing Fallout 4 which I adore but wasn’t able to get through on old slow desktop and laptops. It looks fantastic in 4k. I’m also able to play Microsoft Flight Simulator which is jaw dropping.

                              2021 Wish List

                              Far Cry 6
                              MLB The Show 21
                              Disco Elysium (Waiting for Sale)
Immortals Fenyx Rising (Waiting for Sale)

Plan is to get a PS5 at some point this year but none of the titles I’ve read about so far have really struck me as that interesting. I thought about putting Horizon Forbidden West on my wish list but I’m completely burned out on games taking place after an apocalypse. I played the original Horizons, Far Cry 5 and in my rotation is Fallout 4, Mad Max and the Last of Us. I need a break from that underlying depressing theme of survival after the end of the world.

                              2021 Games Acquired

Microsoft Flight Simulator (PC Game Pass)
                              Greedfall (PS4 – Hard) – Level 5

                              Games Finished in 2021

Jurasic World Evolution (PC) – Completed – Five Stars on All Islands, All Missions

I don’t have much time these days to play these simulation/building games but the kid in me always has times for dinosaurs. I thought this was a brilliant game. Sending archaeologists around the world to dig for dinosaur bones, researching the DNA to create new dinosaurs, housing the dinosaurs, improving park facilities as the money rolls in and then dealing with the inevitable chaos when the dinosaurs break out of their enclosures was great fun. I couldn’t bring myself to have the dinosaurs fight each but that option is there, too. 9 out of 10.

                              DLC Finished in 2021

Dragon Age Inquisition DLC (PC -- Normal) – Jaws of Hakkon – Level 26

The original Dragon Age came out in 2014. I completed the main game a few years ago but I’m still working through the DLC. It took me so long to play the Jaws of Hakkon that I completely forgot the plot of it. The story and the lore has become so convoluted it’s hard to keep track. The graphics haven’t aged well and the characters are forgettable (except for Sera and her witty sarcasm). The best thing I can say is that the boss dragon is worth the wait. Even on the normal difficulty, the battle against the boss dragon is like 20 minutes and feels like a worthy accomplishment. 6 out of 10.

                              Backlog Monster (tm)

                                Re: 2021 Gaming Plans

Last year was a weird gaming year for me. I mostly just peddled in place not really accomplishing a lot yet playing fairly regularly.

So I decided to take a different approach into 2021. I am not going to really list my backlog or keep track of it any more because let's be realistic, I will never get through it. What I decided to do was break my games up into several categories and set goals for myself.

Goal 1: Beat 3 games I haven't beaten yet. My main problem is that I will binge play a game and get 3/4 of the way through it then move on because I binged on it. Or I will get part way through a new game then go back and replay something I have beaten a few times already (aka every final fantasy game that exists). Instead of having the goal of cutting into my backlog I did this as I feel like I may accomplish something in gaming in 2021. I beat exactly 0 new games in 2020. Bonus here is I have a lot in progress already.

Goal 2: This one involves PC gaming. There are about 4 games I play on a regular basis on PC on my steam account. These are games I can play for half an hour before work or as a way to relax and not really think too hard. Just sit back and chill kind of games. These are Stardew Valley, Factorio, Cities Skylines, and Planet Zoo. Each has a unique goal I want to reach and the goal in 2021 is to accomplish one of those game's goals.

Goal 3: This involves my sports gaming. This one gets more complicated it seems. I used to pick the worst or near worst team in the league in any given game and rebuild them with the intention of playing in the future with a team I created. I did this for a while and got some cool dynasties out of it. Mostly through simming and nothing else.

More recently I tried this and could never find attachment to teams I didn't have attachment to in real life. So I started using my favorite teams (Cleveland or Columbus teams) and rebuilding or improving them. I found more of what I was looking for here while still simming into the future and I have some Cleveland teams I really like. For example my 2027 Indians I played all of 2026 in MLB 19.

The issue I would always eventually run into was I would binge play these and then be over it for a while. Because of this I decided to set a semi schedule for my sports gaming.

Sunday: NFL Sunday: play 1 season game of Madden a week playing my 2026 Browns. I set up some cool story lines here for myself and could make it through a few seasons in 2021.

Wednesday: MLB Wednesday: play 1 game of my future 2028 Indians or play 1 game of my play 1 sim 10 Indians 1993 franchise.

Saturday: UFC fight Saturday: play 1 match in my UFC career.

The rest of the week is a wild card and play a game from my other sports games. I will work on making my future NHL Blue Jackets, future NBA Cavs, PGA 2k golf course creation, and maybe a FIFA career. Essentially rotating through the rest. Once I get one to where I want I will likely add a day to play a game of that each week.

Limiting the sports games will keep me engaged long term and still allow time to enjoy some open world games and to finish those.

This may seem silly but it will still be accomplishing goals in sports games while not being burnt out by them in the end.

Plus I am considering getting into streaming at some point this year so this will add to that.

                                2021 Planned purchases

Honestly none. I am sticking with my ps4 for most if not all of the year. There just isn't any real incentive for me to upgrade. Plus I am done buying sports games unless one really blows me away which honestly I don't see happening.

                                ------

Well those are my long and convoluted gaming plans for 2021 to actually accomplish something in gaming.
