Right!! There’s this odd addiction that I have for the game that I can’t really articulate lol. It’s like a contingency game bumped to my number one spot, not because it’s a particularly great game, but because everything else is lacking.

Again, no heavy complaints. Reminds me of an old school NES or Sega game, just SUPER difficult for no reason! I look back and laugh at instances where I’ve yelled at Lhutel , “Lhutel, if you don’t get your A@@ over here RIGHT NOW” lol!! Gotta break out the strategy guide (YouTube in this day and age)!!!!

I said this at the 110 hour mark, I didn't finish the game until 161 hours

I kept running into new **** I hadn't discovered everywhere I went. Backtrack and I'd find something I had missed before

In an age where games are halfway finished at release and you still get charged $70 + tax just to wait for months (sometimes years) until the game is up to standard, Elden Ring came in at a $60 mark and is one of the most ambitious and content generous games I have ever played. In that sense it's a true throwback to old RPGs that gave you so much to do; but here it's just simply more of the game to explore and conquer instead of minigames

Top 3 all-time for me, might be Top 2 or Top 1 but I need to let it marinate a bit. I'll be coming back to it after I finish Bloodborne and the rest of my backlog - even then Bloodborne is nearly impossible to play after how smooth and seamless the Elden Ring experience was for me

New mod released today seamless co-op

It looks promising, I'm going to try and get a friend to try this out with me along with an item randomizer.

You can play offline. Just go into the settings, choose offline, and then restart the game. Some “invasions” are NPC’s though.

As soon as MLB 22 came out we tapped out.

Leveled up to 60 and never finished. Fun game….very hard….crazy wild map. Ingot 55 hours out of it. So got my moneys worth.

I've been working in some PvP here and there, but I was going to start up my 2nd playthrough soon after I finish a couple other games I'm working on. I was mostly an INT-DEX build with some faith mixed in my first playthrough, think this time around I'm gonna try a more melee-reliant build for a bit of an extra challenge.

I took a little break when I got to the Mountain Tops of the Giants, the boss of that area was really pissing me off so I had to take a few days off the game. But after you get past that region you get to the coolest region of the game, followed by the end game, so you're nearly there unless you want to do the optional regions and bosses as well lol

I went a good 2 months between finishing Volcano Manor and then finally completing the Capital this morning. I just didn't have the desire to play when I was 80 hours in but knew I probably had 40 more to go.

I love all of these games but this one is just too long. I am now at 108 hours played. Just arrived in that area and all my buddies say even if you do EVERYTHING from that point it should be another 20ish hours tops... So I am a little hopeful I might actually beat it soon.

                      Re: Elden Ring

I am still playing as well. In fact I have not touched another game since February. Just do not ask how many hours I have logged in. Snails look like japanese shinkanzen compared to how "quickly" I progress.

And though I had some moments of fatigue, the game's still incredibly addictive and full of surprises, amazingly constructed dungeons, shortcuts, and of course, bosses.

I have to admit I am quite overleveled but all my runes were fair fight, no cheese rune farming glitches YT is full of. I still die a whole lot. I am also trying to use each and every resource the game offers through its crafting system. For example, I just "discovered" what warming stones can do for you, and in my last dungeon, Leyndell, they proved to be a game changer.

I am still hell bent on finishing this game because I am running for Ranni's ending and there's no way I would give up on that, at least that's the mindset right now.

I've attempted to get invested and just ****ing hate the game and everything about it. It's my first Souls game and it's just so frustrating. Cheap deaths, unblockable combos, lack of information and often painfully opaque, missing every basic quality of life system you expect in modern games (no bestiary in 2022!), and a toxic gatekeeping community.

I get it, it's apparently well balanced, and cheap to me is fair difficulty for others, requiring stick skills and patience I don't have in my 40s (the "git gud" BS). But seriously, I want to explore this game, not get insta-killed by hiding goblins with hooks that ambush me and lose thousands of runes over and over. The look is great, even if it's choppy and janky as hell, and would love to see more of the character design and architecture...but I can't progress because I can't stay alive long enough, nor have the time to grind for hours to overcome that skill gap.

Why an easy mode is anathema to the Souls cult boggles the mind. It doesn't change the challenge or affect things in any way for you. It just makes my weapons hit harder and enemies have lower HP, and can bring more people in to see all of your lovingly crafted world.

It’s 100% stupid not to offer difficulty levels in any game. This masochist idea that only the good gamer should play or force you to do the same area over and over until you beat it is ridiculous. But if these Souls type game want to cut their user base in half because some of us refuse to buy and support this idiocy then I guess it’s on them.

I'm in a similar boat, I'm 40 and kinda bored with the game, but trying like hell to like it. At first I was dying a ton, then I followed as Samurai/Mage tutorial to get some skills. Had a blast getting leveled up, but now that I'm back to exploring on my own and I can't seem to get fired up again.

I totally see where you guys are coming from and it would be nice if FromSoft games were more accessible but at the same time I personally feel that every game doesn't need to be tailored to a broad general audience.

A big reason their games are popular is due to their difficulty. If their games always had some form of easy mode I honestly don't know if they would've ever become this popular. They would probably still be considered good action games but not nearly as beloved.

This just isn't the case at all with Elden Ring though lol. You can quite literally just go somewhere else if you're struggling and come back stronger, you don't have to bash your head against the wall until you finally clear the area; just go somewhere else on the map. The open world is a big part of why Elden Ring exploded among a casual audience - not just because open world is what's "in" right now, but because it makes the game easier on those who struggle.

It created a gameplay loop for those who struggled with FromSoft games previously; they're literally doing what you suggest, it's just not a surface-level difficulty option. The difficulty options are how you play the game and what resources you use.

The game doesn't have standard difficulty levels (as it shouldn't), but you can tailor your own experience. If you want an easier time, focus hard on a magic build with good range. Use summons. Go to a different area and level up. Elden Ring has SOOOO many more options for you as a player to circumvent the difficulty as opposed to any Souls game or Bloodborne. Use them, they're your resources. Make sure you level up your weapons and summons at the Roundtable. Summons in particular are huge for anybody struggling; a good tanky summon will draw the attention of your enemies, allowing you to get your **** in. Even better if you're a magic build as you can keep your distance. And lastly, don't be afraid to cheese the game if needed. I cheesed the Black Blade Kindred in Caelid because he was one-shotting me constantly and I wanted to go in and out of the Beast Sanctum without having to run into him, still don't feel bad about it.

                                --------

Now, the conversation about having different levels of difficulty. To me, the most fun that comes out of Souls games is talking about the challenge to friends and others that have played/beaten the game. Finding out their strategies to take down bosses or leveling up, sharing with each other different tactics and secrets. That just kind of gets nullified if you put in an "Easy" mode.

People don't play FromSoft games specifically for the story, or specifically for the difficulty; it's a blend of the obscure lore and writing along with the challenge of the game that help make it a rewarding and satisfying experience. Their games don't hold your hand and a lot of us love it for that. Games don't have to be made for everybody
