I've had no issues playing it, albeit I own physical disk , and rarely do anything digital outside of the ps+ monthly games and the cheap heavily discounted PSN games.

Sign in on the PlayStation app on your phone and buy it from there or get it from the PlayStation website on your desktop.

The remake is amazing, wish mafia 2 was an remake. Most Remastered aren't worth to replay it

With the recent layoffs I’m not going get excited about the new game and assume it will never happen. I hope I’m wrong as I’ve always liked the series.

Hopefully H13 learned from their mistakes with M3 and make it more like the older games as far as attention to details. Either way, I think I should forget about it for a few years if it's in early stages of development.

When I see a "few years away", that means at 2025ish. So, it'll be out of sight out of mind for me like how the Max Payne Remake will be for me. But, I do think they'll take a similar approach to Mafia 1. When I see publishers do remakes and remasters of one specific entry of a series, that usually signifies how they would want to approach the next entry of the series. Like how Saints Row 3 got the special remaster, putting the emphasis to just remake Mafia 1, almost tells me that they want to take that approach. I can see the next Mafia be a "reboot" and not Mafia 4.

                    Re: New Mafia in development

I wish the world was more accessible in Mafia 1 and Mafia 2 with more side stuff to do but I would take a good story and narrative driven game with cool looking world over repetitive content.

A few weeks ago I considered that maybe I unfairly judged Mafia 3 when it releases so I downloaded it on my PS5 to give it a go. The framerate was so bad that I didn't make it out of Chapter 1.

I may download it on PC if I catch it for cheap just to compare.

Semi-related: I've been watching Peaky Blinders on Netflix and I wouldn't mind a game based on that either if someone wanted to tackle it. I'll end up putting this game out of my mind for a while just like I have that new 007 game being developed by IO Interactive. I've been wondering if we will start seeing information for that anytime soon.

I didn't play Mafia 1, but I did watch the walk through. It’s definitely a game that I'll play once I get through my backlog. Mafia 2 was the main game I wanted to play again, but I wished that game got the remake treatment as well instead of a so so remaster. I know the reception for that wasn't great. I can't see myself playing Mafia 3 again

It's definitely worth it if you're a fan of the genre. The gun mechanics and gameplay are nothing revolutionary but still a good story. I saw they were giving away Mafia 1 for free on PC but it's the original version. If you can play the remake on PC instead of console that's probably the better route. I think the console version is locked at 30 FPS.

That there is a reason why I've been holding out on replaying certain last gen games. Seeing a game like Shadow of the Tomb Raider get a random next gen patch last year and God of War get a 60fps patch, makes me want to wait for other games to do so even though it isn't likely. Those updates made a big difference. Heck I'm still waiting on games like Batman Arkham City and Uncharted Collection to get a 60fps patch before replaying it lol

                            Re: New Mafia in development

It will be interesting to see what direction they take the game. I agree that the Mafia 1 remake is probably a good indicator of where they want to take IV in terms of gameplay. If there is one thing I am not worried about with Mafia IV, it is the writing and cut scenes. Every game in the series has done that extremely well.

I honestly hope the game is not rushed (duh), and they don't scrap every idea they had for III. It had a lot of great ideas that never got to come to fruition. If it is a more linear game like the remake, I will still be satisfied because that game was great, as was the original and the second game. However, I am a sucker for open worlds that are living and breathing and III still had a pretty world that was nice to explore in my opinion.

I still enjoyed III more than most based off the general consensus of the game, so I am sure I will enjoy the upcoming game. I do wish it were in Las Vegas in the 60's and 70's like the rumors were a few years ago, but again, outside of the repetition of gameplay in the third game due to it being rushed out, I've felt this series has nailed everything it has ever set out to achieve, so I'm sure whatever route they go with IV will please me. This series is one that seems to understand what its audience likes about its games and makes the right decisions based off of that. The only time they disappointed was when they had to release III earlier than they wanted and we got stuck with repetitive missions due to them not being able to realize the revolutionary ideas they had.

Who knows, maybe those ideas get fleshed out in IV?

If they aren't going to go all out with the open world and make it top notch. Then just make the game linear and focus on the story and gameplay.

As much as I like a good open world game, I'm not opposed to a linear style game. As long as it is a great story and long enough story, I'm good with a linear game. I been stopped liking Assassin's Creed, but I preferred the linear style AC games as opposed to the open world AC games. Take what they did with the Mafia 1 remake with a quality story and attention to detail with good gameplay, and I'll be interested
