EA may charge $70 for next-gen games

    http://www.happypuppy.com/editorial....s&news_id=1081

In today's sessions of Destination PlayStation, Sony's annual gathering of its retail partners, Sega showed off Condemned, a survival horror game, and a racing title described as "Burnout 3 with weapons" both for the Xbox 2.

Because this is a retail event, the retailers were primarily concerned with what the games were going to cost. According to a source at the event, Sega representatives stated that the company's games for the next generation of consoles would enter the market with a suggested retail price of $59.99 and speculated that launch titles from EA Sports would retail for as much as $69.99.

It is understandable why Sega would mention EA Sports as Electronic Arts has signed an exclusive deal with the NFL taking the NFL license away from Take-Two and Sega.

Regardless if the $70 price tag is speculation or not, one thing is for sure -- if you want to play a licensed football game on the Xbox 2, you'll pay whatever EA decides you'll pay.

    Speculation, but $70!

I guess this is how EA is going to pay for those licenses.

oh man i can't afford to keep shelling out $70 for a new game.

edit: why would sega show off xbox 2 games. Also is this price increase going to be for all systems or just one of them.
Just wait till Arsenal moves into Emirates Stadium.

Damm if that's really going to be the price for some EA games, then I'm really glad I get my EA games for free.

I have a hard time picturing somebody shelling out $80-$85 for a game.

Where do you get $80-$85? (it would be just about $75 for an EA game including 7% tax) Anyways, this is bullcrap (sorry) for them to charge this much. If this is true, I will be signing up for gamefly.

It will be for all systems, and Sega is working on Xbox 2 games, just like they did this gen. What got me was, they where shown at a Sony show. I think they meant "they are showing them off at a Sony conference, but they'll also be for Xbox 2." Are they could be total morons.

If it's $70 in the US then it would probably be $80 (w/o tax) in Canada.

I said this before when all the exclusive deals came out that EA might overcharge, it's pretty simple... no competition = high prices.
