    70 is too much!

Unfortunately we'll end up getting it no matter what price. Gaming is an addiction.

Over here, its already 70 - 80 dollars for a game brand new. I guess with the prices raising, I'd be paying nearly $100 for a video game

Eventually the prices will probably go back down to close to $50, but in the short term they can charge $70 because once you have the system (which you will get for a reasonable price most likely) then your demand for games to play on that system are inelastic (meaning that you have no substitutes or alternatives.) I would predict that games start at $70 for the first 6-12 months that the next gen systems come out. after that, the market will drive the price back down to around $50 where it has been stable for many years.
I highly doubt a company is going to lose 1 billion dollars just to make a next-gen console.
Just wait till Arsenal moves into Emirates Stadium.

I will not be buying any games for over $50. $70 is way too much for me and not even worth it, if it comes down to that I will just buy all my games used. There's no way in hell I'm dropping $70 on a video game, I'll just stick with my XBOX.

I don't like the idea of paying that much, but when you think about it, since the NES, game prices haven't really gone up like the price of everything else. It would be interesting to see a comparison seeing as how video games have stayed about the same and actually with 3 consoles now, they drop in price more than ever.

Re: EA may charge $70 for next-gen games

You are forgetting that NES, Genesis, Neo Geo, N64 carts were expensive media. Now you can fit games on a DVD that costs less than a quarter to make.

The entire situation is bullsh*t to me. $54.11 after tax was already too damn high. Now they want $65-$76 for a new game? A game printed on cheap media. Give me a break.

I don't want to hear production value crap either, Half Life 2 which took YEARS to make and has graphics and presentation as good or better than next gen systems will have was $54.99 retail and really you could get it for $34.99 - $39.99 anywhere you wanted with even less of a market than a copy of say Madden would sell to.

I think I'll pass if the games are over $50.

I have a hard time picturing somebody shelling out $80-$85 for a game.
