are they pretty thorough when you return the bad product? like do they catch the serial # from the box? or is the BOX not even needed?

Is the serial # of the PSP or unit written on the receipt?

I ask all this because you could easily buy a "broken psp" on ebay for 50, return that and get a new one.

Re: OFFICAL I got PSP thread

I really want a PSP so I can play my sports games anywhere, anytime. Additionally I want one because my son has all but taken over the ps2, and aside from soccer, he doesn't get into the sports games. My quandry is that I just purchased an ATV. ATVing is so relaxing for me, like playing golf, and it took forever for my wife to allow me to pursue the purchase. So asking for a PSP is probably not wise. I have a plan: I can promise her that I won't expect "relations" anymore and in its place will be the PSP. So that will get her out of that once a month performance. If she says that I will be off 4wheeling and won't have time for the PSP, I can always come back with the "I'll play while driving the 4-wheeler!"

Sully and Knight, how is the framerate? Every review seems to comment on it being choppy. I am a framerate whore, but I really want to try this game out.

It's choppy, no doubt. With the game playing so fast, it makes it even more noticeable.

That may be the one to make get the system.

They do check the serial number...its on the PSP...you need to make sure you keep your reset as well...

I don't think a box is needed, just the hardware...
