The next GTA: where do you want it?

Here are some of my ideas:

Detroit-like settings: it would suit the GTA series a lot
London-like settings: it could be quite good.
Mexico-like settings: instead of creating a state, they'd create this one gigantic smog filled mexican city (also a very violent place)

Re: The next GTA: where do you want it?

Vice City was straight out of Scarface, San Andreas was Boys in the Hood, so maybe a good question is what movie or timeframe would you want to see? To me, it doesn't get better than the 90's in Cali...I want a prequel to San Andreas, something that the bonus disc with the soundtrack sort of hinted at in terms of what happened before Carl came home. The only problem with that is they'd need to create a new world to play in, so that probably won't happen. I don't want to see a "Snatch" type game in London, or God forbid an Antonio Banderas character in Mexico!

      Good question...

Tokyo or Hong Kong would be cool. If you go European, then London or Rome.

^ good point about the movies.

I haven't seen Snatch but I heard good comments about it.

I think it will stay in the US. Taking the game out of the country might turn off a lot of casual fans IMO. I think it might be some kind of sequal or prequal.

i think they should revisit the nyc area and with all the advancements made in the mapping and the mass area in san andreas, you can give us a little boston, philly and d.c. area in addition to nyc. give us a little tri state theft auto. they have set the bar high for any game developers tryin to fool with rockstar.

I thought it was ok, but a GTA based off of it would need a heavy emphasis on subtitles!

Since this game is going to be next gen, I would not be surprised if this thing spanned all of Western Europe. You might have to assume more of a hitman role to travel that much, but with less subtle tactics so you can still blow up your world or kill anyone whenever! If you really want to show off the new technology and how great this series is, PS3 would be the PERFECT medium to see the Ifle Tower in Paris, steal some paintings in the Louve, etc. etc. for England, Italy, Germany, and all the landmarks. Think big, Rockstar is going to blow us away.

Chicago in the 20's. Al Kapone and the St. Valentine's day massacre, cars with the slick white wall tires, and old tommy guns, it wouldn't get any better then that.

Grand Theft Auto Oklahoma City, baby!

It would be great for next gen because OKC is the second largest city in the country in square miles.

Yes, I'm kidding. I've been to London and London would be a GREAT choice if you ask me. The city is huge and there are buildings everywhere you look; there isn't much open space at all. You could boat down the River Thames, use The Tube to get places in a hurry, etc, etc.

I can see it flying off the shelves now.

They've done a big city(GTA 3), 80s beach town(Vice City) and West Coast(SA), so the obvious next choice is Grand Theft Auto: Deep South.

I agree with revisiting NYC. There's only so many settings that this game would work in. I think it would be cool for them to do a more mob type storyline in NYC and North jersey. The gang war concept could be adapted to represent different mob families.
