SWG: the total expierience
Does anyone (other then terry, of course) play SWG? i am burnt out with WOW, and am sort of mmorpg-hopping to find my new fix. I was planning to pick up galaxies tonight or tomorrow, and was hoping to find a few people to hop on with. I will get on terry's server to learn the ropes, but the more the merrier.

I was part of the open beta and played for a little while after but could never really get into it. I'd be willing to try it again if I know some people on there though.Originally posted by Bacardi151Does anyone (other then terry, of course) play SWG? i am burnt out with WOW, and am sort of mmorpg-hopping to find my new fix. my first(and only) MMORPG before WOW was ultima online. I played that for 2 years or so. i was hoping to find the same community in wow as i did then, but at 60 its lacking ( so to everyone, take your time getting to 60). from what i have read with SWG, the community is there, people are upset over the new CU, but there is more to do then just fight and earn set items.
I am also trying EQ2 and just cant get into it, i think mainly cause i am getting sick of the D&D setting. Afraid of trying COH cause i have heard the same thing: "only thing to do is fight". no economy, no housing, nothing to do except the same thing at the end. i guess you can say that about all games, but it seems too similiar to WOW right now; and with WOW i literally spent time running laps around the great forge waiting for the 50th stratholme run(60 dwarf pally, 57 troll shamman). I like Guildwars though, go figure.
plus i figure its 30 bucks for the original game and 2 expansions, so no big loss if i end up shelving it after 30 days.Comment

Re: SWG: the total expierience
People are upset because you can no longer throw on composite armor, pop food and buffs, and solo tank 6 bigass pikets at once. It requires grouping and teamwork now, as well as a little strategy.
Special attacks now work with all like weapons, so if you learn an aimed shot as a pistoleer, you can still use it with a rifle if you want. There are specific attacks that you learn with each profession, but it takes a bit of strategy to learn the recharge timers and action costs to do the most damage over time. People don't like change, that's all there is to it.
I personally love seeing varied players now...not a bunch of composite armor clones running around. You can't even wear armor until you make novice in any elite profession now. The missions pay total value to everybody in the group, no more splitting. You get full xp from just popping something once, so no more "don't use specials!" getting shouted out by a group leader.
It's just much better overall, even with the implementation of combat levels. People just don't like change. It's fun now, which is something that was tough to say before, other than in the early days before the uber armor, uber buffs, and the ability to be invincible to almost anything.Comment

Re: SWG: the total expierience
You can wear the armor designed for the class.
Honestly, what sense does it make for a Teras Kasi Master to be dressed in head-to-toe composite armor that would make him unable to move fluidly like it would require?
A brawler still gets Center of Being out of the gates...your damage goes from 75 by a lowbie critter to 22. Your life goes up from 1000 to 3500 as you level up to combat level 80.
So yeah, you can't wear "your own" armor, but what they're trying to do is actually create roles for classes, and get away from cookie cutter templates. You can still wear some forms of armor (although I don't think TK can wear any) like Ubese and whatnot as a pistoleer, but the only guys who can (and should be able to) wear a full suit of composite are the hardcore front line combat guys like Commandos and BH's, etc.Comment

Well, I guess that makes sense.. Hell, I was a wookie and didn't even have pants. I was wondering what people were so pissed off about. They should of designed the game like that in the first place. When you’re paying 15 bucks a month to play a game and they take stuff away that was available to you the night before is not good.Comment

Re: SWG: the total expierience
I fully, fully, fully agree with that.
As the game is NOW, it makes more sense than ever before. However, when you change core game mechanics like that 2 years after release, well...that's jacked up. However, I think the life of the game will extend because of this change, rather than shorten it. Keeping it as it was was a recipe for disaster in the MMO world, since the idea is to group. SWG was the only MMO I knew of that you could play without seeing or interacting with another soul for months on end...I know, because I did that unlocking my Jedi.
The old game ended up wearing so thin on me that I actually deleted my Jedi toon and the character that unlocked him, and quit the game. It wasn't until some friends of mine recommended that I try the revamp that I tried it again.
This is the game that it should have been from the start, but to completely change everything overnight is extreme. Necessary, but extreme. The only defense they have is that they said it was coming for a year, so people should know. Nerfing and changing is the name of the game in MMO's. It's just the first time I can remember where they changed the actual core of the game.Comment

Re: SWG: the total expierience
Rhaziel on Scylla is my main (James_E rolled on Scylla and convinced me to come on over there, and I'm glad I did. Less server lag, less overpopulation overall). I also have Ashkor on Corbantis and Dryloc on Ahazi.
If you create on Ahazi though, I can have you hold some stuff for me so I can get rid of this chick toon I made there. I've got something like 8 million credits on her, and I'd give you a mil for your trouble lol.Last edited by TCrouch; 06-06-2005, 08:59 AM.Comment

Re: SWG: the total expierience
What times do you guys usually play? I'd like to get back into this but I'm not an experienced MMORPG player and the whole thing is kind of overwhelming. I'd love to get on there with some of you guys if possible to learn the ropes.Comment

Re: SWG: the total expierience
I play all day...I have a cool job and I play for 8 hours at work. Just not sure what game I play half the time. Sometimes it's WoW, sometimes SWG, sometimes Guild Wars.
I play at home when I can, but a lot of times I hop on my XBox (since I don't have one of those at work). I'm in PST so I pretty much play from 7am-4pm, then hop on later in the evening, somewhere around 6 or 7PM.Comment
