Good point. I know some crafters who have never fired a shot or fought a mob. All they do is survey resources and place extractors to create new items. You can own factories and mass produce items to sell, even.

Doctors can do nothing but heal people if they want, never actually joining the fray. Or you have Combat Medics that can go to the opposite end of the spectrum and toss out ranged diseases and whatnot. Entertainers can sit in a cantina and dance or play music (and learn different versions of both) to give people inspiration buffs, increasing xp gain by 10% for up to 3 hours.

You can do a ton of crap in SWG, that's for sure.

I guess it would differ, but wouldn't becoming a Jedi a huge carrot in this game?

Wow, I'm sure I couldn't do that, but to each his own... It is cool that the game gives you that option though

          Yeah, that's typically the case.

For me personally, the reward wasn't worth the risk you take every time you leave your in-game house, though. If a BH kills you as a Jedi, you lose 200k xp instantly. You need to earn millions for most boxes. The BH, though, loses nothing if he fails. It's all risk for the Jedi, and little for the BH.

alot of people think so. Jedi seem to be very powerful right now. Terry might be able to explain it better. But the grind is what i think will turn those impulse jedi wannabe's away.

or then again maybe not. Havent played long enough to know exactly the deal is with the jedi. I do know that many complain cause there are too many of them running around and it breaks the continuity of the movies or something.

Yeah, and Pilot is a whole different ballgame, I'm finding. You can fly for Privateers (the Hutts, etc), the Empire or the Rebellion. You level up in much the same way as the rest of the game except the boxes don't cost skill points. You get certified to fly a Y-Wing, an X-Wing, etc (or TIEs and TIE Interceptors, what have you). You can play it with a Joystick or the mouse/keyboard, and even the m/kb is very controllable. It's hard to explain how cool it is to fly into combat with some friends against a squad of TIE Fighters above Dantooine, or perform smuggling runs for Jabba out of Tatooine.

People have sticks up their a$$es, frankly. The game is set in between the original Star Wars and the Empire Strikes Back, where Jedi were supposed to be all but extinct. But you can't allow a player to become a Jedi in a game where they aren't supposed to exist without seeing them pop up all over the place. People complain about canon and being faithful to the time period, but it's a crock. They could have made a game set in the Clone Wars and let Jedi run around freely, but who would want to play with Jar Jar and the Trade Federation? Nah, people wanted to see Vader and the Emperor.

The grind is indeed what stops people from getting to be a powerful Jedi. As a newbie Jedi, you'll get taken out a TON if you get caught. To get to the point of the "powerful" Jedi in the game, you have to have persisted through a lot of crap and tedious grinding. I couldn't do it personally, which is why I deleted my Jedi and went back to a "soldier" toon.

I can see how that system would limit the number of jedi, but I agree with you Terry, that doesn't sound like fun...Might check this game out if I ever hit the wall with WoW, don't see that being soon tho

                    Re: SWG: the total expierience

I will agree wholeheartedly on the non-battle professions in this game. I am halfway to Master Doctor and halfway to Master Bio-Engineer, and I am having a ball. I have a goo group of folks that I talk to on Ventrillo in game (headsets + space combat = heaven), they battle while I get Medical XP towards Doctor, and when I am not around them I am grinding Medical Crafting XP for Bio-Engineer (what can I say, I like playing God).

Only fighting I have to do is emergency situations. I collect DNA from mobs, heal fighters in battle, fly my Y-Wing Longprobe (almost to tier 3 pilot for the covetted X-Wing), and craft Stimpacks/Pets for others.

Oh yeah, one thing that wasn't mentioned: Multi-person vehicles, ESPECIALLY SPACE FIGHTERS (Imagine flying around with 7 people in a Millennium Falcon clone with 2 gunners, a pilot, a co-pilot, and 3 guys running around repairing the ship on the inside) is phenomenal. Gives another variable to the X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter style gameplay for space combat.

                      Re: SWG: the total expierience

Had a blast with terry last night. Started up a new toon and went out hunting with him and the new guildmates. A few bountyhunters showed up looking for some of the young jedi padawans, but eventually we were able to get back to business and finish off some of the gurk lairs, so it was a pretty successful night.

If you guys are still wondering what server to get one, you should hop on over to this one. you'd have alot of fun.

                      EDIT:

forgot to mention, BK got on last night as well and was not tagged as a rebel, so the group was about the beat the crap outta him thinking he was another BH....lots o' fun lol

Maybe I'll move my character from Tarquinas to Scylla, since Tarquinas has a low population.

Finished grinding up Rhaziel (Master Bounty Hunter, Master Carbineer, 0003 Pistoleer, 0020 Medic). Ran some quests for the Proton Carbine and Clone Armor, then the Bolotaur. This game is nice now.

I've been grinding my Smuggler / TKM on Starsider. I'll try to move my MCM / Doc later this week. He's a lvl 63 so I have some work to do. I think I'll try to make him 'glowy'. I only need to do the Warren or Corvette.

                              Re: SWG: the total expierience

I played SWG many moons ago, and we sort of got burned out on it and moved on to other stuff (WW2, CoH, WoW, Camelot), this was even before the Jump to Lightspeed expansion.

I've been in a Star Wars mood lately, so I picked up the new pack and logged back in with Gurantsu, who strangely enough is on the Scyllia server. So far I like the combat upgrade a lot, it makes combat more strategic and intense. You really need to think about what you're doing. Plus, my first experience with the starships has been great. I can't tell you how cool it is to jump into a ship and fight pirates above Tatooine. It's all totally renewed my interest in the game. I still have my WoW account, but I think SWG is going to be taking up most of my time for the moment.

Feel free to add Gurantsu to your friends list. I'm still low level (15, working on rifleman), but have no problem grouping with folks if they'll have me.
