Re: best way to tone up?

I have been working out now for a month and half..I am seen some difference...I have lost most of my gut now..but, still don't have a six pack or abs for that matter...I have an outline..lol..I have gained some muscle but, not much.

I am 5'9, 170...and I think i eat a lot but, I don't pack on the pounds. I want to get up near 180-185 in terms of weight so I atleast of more muscle tone then I do now. I am kinda on the skinny side.

    any suggestions....

What are you eating? How many calories per day and how much protein are getting per day? Someone your size should getting at least 150g of protein per day.

uhhh...I don't know, I never really looked at how many calories per day but, I have protein shakes...but, I know for a fact in that department that I am not getting enough protein in that because I usually have two protein shakes in a day of 25G.

Well, if you're going to take lifting and exercising seriously you need to take your diet seriously as well. I'm not saying eat like a saint because I still don't, but for all but 1-3 meals per week I eat exactly what I should and I always make sure I get enough protein every day. I weigh 220 lbs and make sure I get at leaset 200g of protein per day.

Eat fish, chicken, egg whites, whey, etc. It's not hard to do, it just takes a little planning.

I'm getting around 220G of protein per day, mostly via either Chicken or Whey Protein shakes... anything else that you all can think of that I can throw in the mix?

                  5'6 135 baby...

But seriously, I've been doin push ups and sit ups at night and I can do like 60 of each after like 2 weeks. I'm 135 but I've been that way for a long time and I got taller but never put on more weight so I look fine. I'm not fat by any means but I would like to lose some weight around my stomach thats kind of baby fat and tone up.

Im 6'0" 160 and pretty skinny but not very flabby at all and decently toned(about 10% body fat). My plan in basketball offseason is to eat eggs for breakfast every day and 1-2 protein shakes a day and chicken a couple times a week. I'm gonna try to get in the gym every day. I'm looking to put on about 20 lbs in the first few monthsso I can have a good shot at starting on Varsity my senior year. I'm also trying to get bigger since I'm probably gona join fball again after quitting before this years season.(started on JV as a soph)

I'm a huge fan of tuna melts. Tuna's a great source of protein but I used to find it impossible to eat w/o mayo (which is obviously fattening as hell for you).

Take the tuna out of the can, throw it on a whole wheat wrap and put one slice of American cheese on it. Put it on some tin-foil and throw it in your oven on 350-degrees for 5-10 minutes until the cheese melts and the tuna warms up. It's delicious, I usually have at least one per day.

Also, do you make smoothies a lot? One of my favorite that I make almost daily is..

                        1/2c blueberries
2 tbps of omega natural low-sugar peanut butter
                        2 scoops of designer whey
2 cups of fat-free skim milk
                        a few ice cubes

Blend it up and drink it. It's about 600 calories and 60g of protein. If I have one in the morning I'll stay full until past noon if I have to, even though I'll throw in a snack around 10:30.

FF Skim Milk is another solid source, if I remember correctly each cup has 9g of protein. Also, beef jerky is another great source, especially after a workout. The only negative on beef jerky is the high sodium content, but if you eat it after a workout it's okay because you'll have sweat out a ton of salt that you need to replace. I also drink at least 1.5L of water if I have a packet of Oberto beef jerky. If you eat an entire pack of their traditional flavor it's 320 cal, 28g carbs and 44g protein. I'd say the FF skim milk and beef jerky are my two "secret" sources of protein.

Tuna is good, but get the can's that have he water inside, not the oil.
