RD, After you get in a rythym, and get started into the routine, you shouldn't hurt anymore when doing it. Just the first few weeks will be really tough.

Re: best way to tone up?
yeah.. maybe its just that im really weak and dont maintain that muscle like others.
i'd be lifting good for 3 months.. take off a month and im back down to square 1 starting off the first week... that very first workout would be so intense that Id be sore for 9-10 days after. maybe i just need to learn that i cant be doing the same stuff that i was months earlier in better shape.
i hate changing my program though. im so used to doing everything that anything else seems like a waste.Comment

Re: best way to tone up?
RD, I was extremely tired at first, but after about a week the lifting pains started going away. Now that I am about 1 month and 1 week into my routine it doesn't hurt at all anymore. Maybe I'm lucky.... But I can't imagine not going to work out now... It's so addicting.http://flotn.blogspot.com

Re: best way to tone up?
I'll add my two cents to this great thread:
For me, the keys were/are:
1. Learning HOW to read labels when shopping/HOW to eat
2. Yourself!Fitness for the XBOX.
Staying committed to that program and EATING PROPERLY (that list of food that AA listed early in the thread is almost EXACTLY all I eat) I lost 15 lbs of flab I didn't think I needed to lose in about 6 months and got a 8- (yes 8, not 6)pack abs.
I wasn't very big to begin with (about 5'9" 170) but now I stay around the 150-155 range with a 30" waist and almost 15" arms (14.75" but who's counting)
Yourself!Fitness... Best $35 bucks I ever spent. And someone said that it's impossible to do all this stuff with other responsiblities?... It takes discipline, no doubt, but I work full-time and have a small child... He just works out with me! lol.I'm back... for nowComment

Re: best way to tone up?
Is that game BC for the 360... That wouldn't be a bad idea for the Ms.. What does it entail?
On a side note, I've lost 2" from my waist and 4 lbs in the past week.... that's doing good. I've discovered a new love of yogurt too, which helps.Twitter - WTF_OS

I hear that it is backward comp... (I don't have a 360)Originally posted by WTFIs that game BC for the 360... That wouldn't be a bad idea for the Ms.. What does it entail?

My Mrs. uses it all the time... in fact she has more workouts logged than I do.
You really can't even call Y!F a game...cause it ain't. It's a bona fide personal trainer... but it's all in what you make of it.(consistency)
You don't have to have any equipment (but of course if you do, you'll get more varied workouts).
Set up a user profile (Put in your age, gender, height, weight, activity level...) then Maya (the trainer) will give you a fitness evaluation. she'll have you measure your resting heartrate, then have you doin' Jumping Jacks, crunches, push-ups, stretching, squats... Then based on how you do (and age weight, gender, etc.) she'll make her recommendation as to what you should work on. This will be your "Long-term goal."
My suggestion is to follow what she says, lol.
The cool part is, she tailors each workout to you, with the overall emphasis being whatever your long-term fitness goal is.
So for me, currently, she has me just maintaining with a cardio program-- That's my long-term goal. But each workout (daily focus) I work on something else, say Upper-body strength (back, shoulders, arms, chest) or core-body strength (lower back, abs, obliques)... but since my long-term goal is cardio, she always has me doing plenty of that.
If my long-term goal was Core strength, you can be sure that those excercises would be the thread running through all my workouts, regardless of what I'm working on that particular day.
there are 500 different exercises.
there are 4500 different recipes in the "game" complete with how to cook them. Say you wanna eat 2000 calories a day. Choose that and you'll have several different menus for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks for that many calories/day. (anywhere from 1300-3300 cal.)
It doesn't monitor your eating unfortunately. Hopefully there will be a sequel.
Maya will ask you how you're feeling before you workout, and will make the workout easier or harder accordingly. She'll ask you how you're doing during the workout and will "remember" that for next time. Plus, anytime something is too easy or too hard, you can bump up the difficulty while you excersize.
Every 10 workouts, she'll give you another fitness evaluation to monitor your progress... You can see your progress on a chart...I'm back... for nowComment

Re: best way to tone up?
Even though this may not exactly fit in this thread, I don't want to make a seperate thread just for this, but is it possible to improve you hand-eye-cordination and reflexes. Obviously lots of it is natural ability but lately I've been playing more doubles tennis and the ball sometimes comes at a person reall quickly. I assume once I start to play more I will get better but are there any drills which can improve these two aspects. Also are these things referred to as fast-twitch muscles or is that something different.Just wait till Arsenal moves into Emirates Stadium.Comment

Fast-twitch is something different.... That has to do with jumping ability, I believe. Now if your EYE is twitching, you may have too much stress, lol.I'm back... for nowComment

Ok, here's the weekly update... The inches started coming off this week as well as the pounds... I'm very happy with the progress... Next week is Spring Break which is actually a good thing for me as I get to have even more time for cardio and working out.Originally posted by Superstarthought I'd update progress here in the thread on my weight loss... Here's the weekly update... I'm still making progress despite having 16 beers for Super Bowl weekend.... With that being said... I've decided to give up alcohol for the month to see how much gains I can actually make.

Ok here's the update.... While I didn't lose that much in inches this week, I did drop the weight so that's a plus. I'm sure in a few weeks the inches will start rolling off again, but heck I'll take losing 2.5 pounds in a week every week. Only dissapointment was that I couldn't reach 15.0" inches total this week, I came up .3" short. Oh well I'm hoping next week that changes. I think I really need to start hitting my abs more and doing more intensive cardio to drop down in waist size, but I'm glad this is somewhat of a challenge, it keeps me motivated. With all that said here's my results...

Re: best way to tone up?
Alright, I'm trying to get some definition in my abs. I have a pretty flat stomach, and I'm wondering how many crunches/sit-ups I should do each night and for how long?
ThanksComment

Re: best way to tone up?
It's not really about the quantity of sit-ups you do, it's the quality. Such as intensity of the exercise, proper exercise technique, and following training directions. Basically, you just have to do the right ab exercises the right way. Get use to doing about 3-4 exercises for every muscle in your abdomen area if you want to see some defintion.Originally posted by dharrisfan2003Alright, I'm trying to get some definition in my abs. If you need help, I always recommend buying a book. They'll help more than you think. But most importantly, make sure your eating healthy, otherwise your workouts mean nothing. Having a six pack is a privilege, you have to work hard to keep it.Last edited by APOC; 03-04-2006, 04:31 AM.Comment
