Re: best way to tone up?

I just got a new membership on Saturday and am going back at it. I never stopped running, so I am still in good shape, just lost alot of my muscle that I gained from lifting for a couple of years. It feels good to be sore today. Also felt good to shoot a basketball. I can't believe I stopped.

I'm right around 12% body fat... so I am Oh so close to the possibility of abs again :y4: Although, I'm really not concerned with that anymore. I'm really just wanting to get bigger/bulkier, but no fat still. It's gone from being an "appearance" thing, to more of a profession related thing. I really want to be in top shape for when I hit the academy and police force. That's my main motivator now.

Every cop I have known or seen when they get older are fat and badly out of shape. Makes me wonder how they ever became a cop to begin with.

14 weeks since I stoped drinking Soda.

It's been mostly water, with some OJ, milk and I have a tea probably once every week and half or so.

Yeah, I know... that's not what I want people to see me as. I want to be in top physical/mental shape to do my job. I've seen SO many people apply that "look" the part of a cop like you described, but not do well enough on the physical agility course.. which begs the question, why do a lot of officers let themselves go physically?

The stress of handling society's trash, seeing tragic events first hand, and probably mental exhaustion at the end of each shift doesn't lend well to working out.

Yeah, I know... I have quite a few family members in law enforcement, and you do see gruesome things. Working out for me after going out on patrol w/ them, is what helps me clear my mind. Hopefully that won't change.

With that said, to build mass, how many workouts per week should I be doing? I know I need to be doing some heavier weights, with lower reps to build mass after I get done cutting. I'm a fan of the full body workout, but I know I need to drop that and just focus on a few muscle groups per workout.

Still also looking for anything else that will allow me to build muscle as well (in regards to eating/drinking)...

That is very admirable. I could never understand why police officers do not have to meet a certain physical standard throughout their employment. I am sure the out of shape ones were in shape at one time. I would like to think the men and women who are supposed to be keeping our streets safe are the best people for the job mentally, physically and morally.

To put on mass for a person who has a fast metabolism you have to do 2 things. One is lift heavy. You are not going to get bigger if you are not lifting heavy. Second you have to be eating quite a bit. This is why many people who have a fast metabolism have trouble putting on weight. They are not eating enough.

Here is a link to 8 time Mr. Olympia Lee Haney's website who has some good tips and ideas. Hope you find it useful.

What bulking program are you on right now? I'm debating whether or not to switch now or wait a while longer.

Haha... nah bro, that's me. I've been called the Rock on MANY occasions. Our facial features line up perfectly. At least I'll know what I'll look like if I can ever get bulky, lol. My students use to always ask me to do the people's eyebrow for them too, haha.
