Ever since I got back from my cruise, I've totally stopped working out and actually started back drinking cokes.

I bet people are just now returning to their weights pre-Thanksgiving... unless they continue to binge on food and are continuing to balloon. Only the true hardcore workout nuts usually maintain peak physical fitness the few weeks past Thanksgiving.

I suppose I am a hardcore workout nut, haha. I came home Thanksgiving day and worked out directly after having a sensible dinner...

Oh, I agree completely... they use to be my downfall... now, I can't stand the taste of any carbonated beverage. Just makes me sick.

As for me, I'm in the process of bulking right now... I've been cutting for the past 2 months or so... I've been sparring in some competitions, and have actually faired really well thus far.

You are training to be in state law enforcement, so that makes more sense, since your physical fitness level is important to your job. I got ya beat though... I ran a 5 mile race the morning of Thanksgiving, then went to eat with family

:y4: Yeah, I don't think I ran at all on Thanksgiving day. I'm usually running 2.5-3.5 miles per night.. but since I'm trying to bulk up a little, I'm cutting that down somewhat.

On a side note.. why did you run 5 miles before thanksgiving? My sister wanted me to run in a 10K, but there was no freaking way I was going to drive to SC, and kill myself, haha.

It was a race that I had been training for... I didn't do too hot, but I'm getting better.

Re: best way to tone up?

That's cool... what kind of workout are you doing? Are you doing any strength training, or just conditioning?

I'm trying to keep a good mix of both, in the mix w/ martial arts, which is a hell of a workout. I'm supposed to compete in a fairly large competition next week... so I'm trying to work on strength and agility at the moment...

I need to get back into running and stuff... but right now, for some reason, I'm more concerned w/ mass and sheer strength. Granted, I'm not a BIG guy by any means... but because I'm so lanky and tall at 6'4"... muscle really doesn't show that well on my frame. I guess that's why I'm working on the mass so much.

Re: best way to tone up?

I used to be very bulky, as I was 5'7 and freaking 200 pounds.. with a very low fat percentage. However, after high school (no more competitor sports) I lost a good percentage of muscle and gained some fat...

Now, I'm around 160-165 with very little fat, but most of the bulk is gone... I was running to just get rid of a few pounds and I'm still planning on hitting the weights hard to get around 175-185 in terrific shape.

Though, I havent' gotten to the heavy weight workout portion yet and am just sticking to a running program right now that consists of.

                        Sunday- 3 Mi
                        Monday- 4 Mi
                        Tuesday- 4 Mi
                        Wednesday -2 1/2 Interval Training
                        Thursday- 4 Mi
Friday- 2-4 Mi or day off
                        Saturday- Long run, 5-8 Mi

That is an average week, however there are alot of variations that I've done in the past few months and will probably do in the future. This is a running program that it won't hurt you on your quest to get bulk unless you have a extremely quick metabolism. Anything over 35 would probably prevent bulk building, but anything under that should still allow for it. I mean, my legs are getting freaking huge now... not as big when I was squatting 450+, but still noticable.

Re: best way to tone up?

Geez... the 5-8 mile run would absolutely kill me... I need to build some lower body mass... to help w/ my strength. I mean, my kicks are brutal, but they could be much stronger. How tall are you... to be looking at 175-185? My ideal weight is 190-195.. but I'm 6'4". That's not huge by any means, but it's respectable. I wouldn't even mind hitting the 200lb mark. I'm 180 right now... so I need 10-15 more lbs of muscle to my frame.

That's me around 3 months ago... I've since added around 8-10lbs of muscle. That was before my first competition. I'm in a different weight class now, but still relatively easily winning. The thing that bothers me, is that I'm 8-10lbs heavier.. but it's all upper body... I need to bulk up... and have added to my chest substantially... but my legs are still mediocre. How do you measure your metabolism? Is there an instrument for that? I'm at 12% body fat... well, I was a month and a half ago anyway...

Anyway, everyone else, chime in here... let us know how you're doing. Rainey and I are just havinga great conversation.. but I'm wanting to know how everyone else is doing as well.

Re: best way to tone up?

I'm only 5'7 but I have the body type where 175-185 I will look pretty buff. However some other 5'7 guy might only need 160. We all are built different...

To be 6'4 and to have mass... I think you are going have to hit in the 210-230 range.

I think you can test your metabolism, but it's pretty easy to tell if it is high or low. If you have a hard time gaining weight that means it is high. If you tend to gain weight easily then you have a slow one.

Yeah, we are kinda taking over this thread.

:y4: Yeah, if nobody else wants to chime in...

But yeah, that was a few months ago, and I've since put on quite a bit of muscle, but then I went back into cutting again... now I'm back on the mass part of my workout. I know what you mean, having to get 210-230.. but I don't know, that's pretty big. I guess where i've always been small. Used to, when I was 220 (nothing but fat) I was not happy at all... I guess I have a negative connotation for 200+. Maybe by June (Academy time) then I'll have added quite a bit of muscle, and possibly 210-215. Want some more guys to chime in here, and help me out with some muscle building tips...
