i love people being patriotic but doing it for a few days and then going on with your corrupt being mad at world lives, makes it somewhat bittersweet. many people say they were changed by it, but ultimately, they are not. maybe its just a sign of people trying to move on. by moving on, they reassociate their negative traits back on society.

Big differences. Pearl Harbor was an outpost in Hawaii, thousands of miles from mainland America. Ground Zero is the epicenter of American finance in the most populous city in America.

Another difference: Military ships and military personnel were the targets Dec. 7, 1941. Civilian targets and civilians were the targets Sept. 11, 2001.

That doesn't make the military deaths and damage any less tragic. But as I said earlier, death is one of the risks of having the balls to join the service. You don't expect death from an airliner smashing into your office window while working as a bonds trader.

Plus this War on Terror is going to last a lot longer than WW II.

      Take care,

I honestly feel that the ones that interpert 9/11 differently are being disrespected here. But I will not go into a politcal debate, I respect your guys decision to create a remembrance thread and that is all it is.

But can I please say my opinion about remembering 9/11 for something that most of you will hate me for? I mean I get offended by how you guys are remembering, but I'm not going to hate anyone, it's just what you guys really believe.

What can people like me do here then? I'm really interested with 9/11. I mean I can respectfully just not post anything else in this thread if it really crosses the lines, but I still find it disrespectful to us that believe differently and want this day remembered differently.

either way I mean absolutely no disrespect to the familes and victims of 9/11.

Let me first say your opinion means absolutely nothing when it comes to the OS TOS. Your feelings have little to do with how this site is operated.

Do you know how many times this hack has already been banned from OS for violating the TOS, along with creating multiple usernames? Im sure you didnt.

It would do you well not to come here trying to defending something that isnt allowed here.

If you want to say something about the victims of 9/11 by all means, help yourself, but dont come on here uninformed and trying to create some moral ground on a baseless post from a troll who jumps in threads and throws anti american political garbage into whatever he can on several occassions.

my apologies, and I understand that he seemed to be creating more of a political climate if anything and that is not my intent even though my beliefs are almost in line with his. But again it is not my interest to create any debate as I understand this is not part of the TOS and I respect that.

I just wanted to ask if i can say something about the victims, but it will surely create a lot of hatred, so it is up to you guys if it is allowed or not, and if not I honestly think it's disrespectful, but whatever works for you all.

I was in the Army reserve living on the east side of my hometown of Detroit. I had been in the reserves since 94. After getting back from Mogadishu my wife made me promise that in order to have a child she wanted me to step down from my unit and live a safer life. She did not want to raise a child alone. I agreed and my son was born in 95.

All was fine until the summer of 01. I was hit in the shoulder by a stray bullet while walking with my family down Woodward ave. Damn,I was wounded in my hometown in front of my family. I thought the summer of 01 sucks. I had no clue it would get 1000 times worse.

The morning of 9/11 I watched in anger as innocent civilians died a horrific death. I lost my cousin TC a member of the NYFD.

I knew then my promise to my wife was going to be broken. I went back on active duty and headed to Afganistan. I was there for 3 weeks before heading to N. Iraq to work with the Kurds. I lost my right leg that summer. And my brother Damon a year later in Iraq. I have also lost 15 close friends in both wars.

I have no regrets. I miss my brother, cousin and friends badly. They were all hero's. I pray for their families everyday. I also pray for the hero's that are fighting today. I wish I could go back and be with them as I write. I'll never forget anything about that day and the 5 years after.

God Bless America and the people that make it great.

                      Jackdog;
I was thinking of you today brother. I worked today and as we have since the first anniversary of September 11th, every guy working in my firehouse comes in and we have four moments of silence. One for each of the times that each tower was struck by the plane and one for each time that each tower collapsed.
We then just speak aloud the names of our brothers who we knew and lost. I spoke out Tarel's name among too many others. As long as there is at least one New York City Fireman alive....all those brothers we lost that day will be alive in some way, and remembered. I, and many others will see to that....I promise.
I thought it would get easier to handle as years put some distance between myself and that day, but it has not. If anything, this year was harder. I'm not ashamed to tell you there are tears in my eyes as I type this thinking about that day and ALL those that died.

I will say this in closing. For those who want to say that the events of September 11th did not happen as is being stated.....you are wrong. I was there. I saw what happened right in front of me. I heard it....saw it...smelled it and even tasted it. Bball, I'm not singling you out...or calling you out here. You believe what you believe and you showed some restraint in not pushing the issue in a rememberance thread, but I have to tell you this....if you were NOT there and cannot speak from experience about the topic, it's best to keep your guesses to yourself. Especially to those who lived it.....and if anyone really wants to test their mettle....knock on any big red door with an American flag flying in front of it in New York City and convey your ideas to the "gentlemen" inside.....but you better have your sneakers on, because most of the brothers will not be as polite as I'm being right now.

                      343. ALL GAVE SOME.....SOME GAVE ALL. RIP Brothers.

Tommorrow is September 11, 2006. Five long hard years have passed since a national tragedy.

                        Let us never forget

-Let us never forget what happened

-Let us never forget the thousands who died in each Tower, the Pentagon, and on the flight in Pennsylvania

-Let us never forget the heroes of the flight which was headed for the White House or US Capitol and the heroes who took it down before it reached those targets.

-Let us never forget being thankful that the FAA shut down flights before flights boarded by terrorists took out targets in Los Angeles and the West Coast

-Let us never forget the way we came together as a country, politics didn't matter, religion didn't matter, race, color, or creed didnt matter. The unifying factor was that we were all Americans, and whether we were in New York, Knoxville, Jackson, San Antonio, Washington D.C., Iowa, or anywhere else,we mourned together. It's crazy that it takes a national tragedy to bring us all together as one nation

-Let us never forget the person and people who are responsible for this. May they burn for an eternity in hell for what he did to this country and to others around the world.

-Let us never forget the lives of our firefighters, public officials, and others who gave their lives trying to help people out of either of the towers and the Pentagon. They answered the call of duty and it cost them their lives

-Let us never forget the U.S. serviceman who've given their lives to guarantee our freedom in both Afghanistan, Iraq, and everywhere else they've been. Whether you agree or disagree with the current political situation, the soldiers still deserve respect and admiration and above all thanks for what they've put on the line for us. Many from now back till the Revolutionary War have given their lives to guarantee us freedom, and there's no greater sacrifice.

-Let us never forget the tears of anger, tears of sadness, and tears of joy once we found out a loved one was ok, which fell on September the 11th, 2001, and let's hope those same tears never have to fall again.

-Let us Never forget this image

Well said. Thank you to all the men and woman that risked their lives. Thank you to the armed forces, firefighters, and policeman, woman. God bless the families who lost members. I was watching coverage this morning wow. It was emotional.

And keep in mind, Knight, that door doesn't need to have an American flag hanging, and there doesn't have to be a fire fighter living inside. Opinions might differ beneath the surface on this for all New Yorkers, but the basic thought is still the same.

Off topic, you work out of SI, right? I have a brother who works out of Astoria. I didn't hear from him all day and all night. It got me worried since I heard from my police officer brother. I cried like crazy that night...but then in a twist of fate, I saw him on live television. I was relieved to say the least.

                            Not Staten Island.
Jamaica Queens, Manhattan, Brooklyn and then back to Queens. I lost brothers from each house I worked in. We all know what can happen to us.....and accept it.....but seeing the families(as I did at the memorials this year again) and how it devestates them is absolutely crushing. I'm usually pretty good at holding it together until I see a wife or child lose it and then it hits me. Such a helpless feeling.
I happen to live in Astoria.....where does your brother work...E312 or E263/L117?

                                M.K.

Amen and God bless you brother. Thank you for doing what you do.

It has really hit me hard this year. I think of Tarel's kids and my heart hurts. I think of all your brothers that were him trying to get to a place where people choose to jump out of windows to certain death because of the ungodly heat. And they knew that and still went up. I wonder what he was doing when he was killed. I think of how horrific his death must have been and it really hurts. He died trying to help people. Noble as hell, but still leaves me feeling hollow.

I am always glad to see you post on this topic. I know you lived it and your words give me a feeling of what my cousin went through that day. It really means a lot.

                                Peace.
