I eat tuna and other protein filled foods and I think for my weight, 270 pounds, it would be impossible to obtain a 1 to 1 ration, that's 270 grams of protein per day. Right now with fish + tuna and other protein foods I get about 100-120. To go to 270 grams of protein each day i'd have to have a huge calorie boost and that would not help me any for weight loss. Perhaps the entire 1 to 1 thing is not if you're currently trying to ditch the pudge?

Yeah, I think that's more of a philosophy for people trying to build mass, especially "hard gainers". Someone like me who is around 155 lbs and would prefer to be around 165 or so.

There is no evidence of higher protein diets causing kidney problems in people with healthy kidneys. However, when you bump up your protein you should bump up your water in take as well. I shoot for 1.5 gallons + a day.

Are the muscle milk shakes good for you? Are they worth drinking after a workout? And I'm not referring to the powder ones, but the already made ones.

I have a professor that was a former body builder that showed us a scar left from the removal of his kidney due to taking too much protein. That was enough proof for me.

Plus, all of my text books, many journal articles, and research studies I have looked up do not report anything more than 1 gram of protein per lb of body weight.

This is recommended as it is the safest way and there is no unequivocal data that proves that more than that is better.

I've heard that if you consume more than 30-40 grams (depending on bodyweight) of protein in one sitting the rest is simply flushed through your kidney's and can do more harm then good. Prob why bb'ers started eating 5-7 times per day....

Well I lost 5.8 pounds this week! It's the last week of my weight loss contest and I was very active this weekend, bowling, swimming and walking a ton. I'm down to a "svelte" 273 now. About 40 to 50 more pounds to go.

Nice work! Keep it up. Every pound lost is progress, so don't pooh-pooh it! You're doing a great job.

What do you guys think of this deal? I'm going to pick it up Saturday. I already have the exact set of plates, and I got the bench and the whole deal. I was really looking for a hex bar, but I'll take the rest with it.

I'm hitting about 25 grams per day. I believe you're supposed to get about that.

I saw the doctor today and Im off blood pressure medicine completely..FINALLY!!!!!!! I have been trying to get off those damned meds for 2 years now. Here is what happened - I ran out of meds 2 weeks ago so I bought a machine to take my BP to monitor it and wrote down each time I checked it (twice a day). He looked at the logs and coupled with my reading this morning said that I was doing fine without the meds and it was unneeded so long as I kept working out and watching the food.

My sugar was also good, its supposed to be 100 or less after fasting and mine was 81!!!! Thats the best its been in all of the years Ive been working out! Also, I weighed in 16 pounds lighter than I did 6 weeks ago. So yeah it was a great visit. Lets just hope the next one in 3 months is as good of a one! I still have to wait and get my cholesterol level in a few days but I imagine that should be fine considering Ive been eating so healthy for the last few months now.

Oh and today I beat the owner of my gym in weight loss for a 30 day contest. I lost 10 pounds and he lost 4. We're doing a rematch to keep us both motivated. I'm 269 now so hope to be below 250 by end of summer.
