Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.
Quick question.
I injured my brachioradialis before the summer during a workout. Its not excruciating pain, but it prevents me from doing curls and a few other exercises. I can't even curl a 20lb DB. Anyway, everyone told me the only way to get rid of it is rest it, which I've been doing. But its been 4 months since I last lifted and the pain hasn't improved at all.
Is there any other method to rid myself of this?Comment

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.
Feel like a jackass because I know I'm the thousandth person to give their little situation and ask for advice, but whatever:...
So I'm 20, 6'3 or 4, 180 pounds max. Never really put on weight, but never really tried either. I stay away from sodas and dirnk water/juice mostly but besides that eat whatever I feel like.
Me and my buddy are gonna head into wrestling training for a 6-month spot in about 6 months (just for a new, fun thing to do). Not gonna make it a career, but I figure it's as good a time as ever to bulk up a little. I've got til June. I'm aiming to gain weight, obviously preferably muscle. I don't have any idiot goals set, I'm pretty realisitc but I'm dedicated. I also wanna up my (currently terrible) stamina.
I've just gotten the big Whey Protien thing, amino acid pills, creatine elixer, and multivitamins that I take anyways. I have a hook up at a vitamin shop so we grab pretty much whatever we need with little to no charge.
So I'm not completely going to go on a strict diet, but I'm gonna change some things. I plan on working out daily (no less than 5 days a week) then taking the aminos/protien shakes.
My three questions are: 1. Is that enough? 2. What workouts are best for this (or should I just use the link in the first post?). 3. What are the main changes I should make to my diet (not huge altercations, but what are the things are definitely stay-aways or definitely great to have?)
Thanks fellas.Comment

For mass I would stick with the whey during the day I prefer Isolate. Then at night if I were you trying to gain mass I would take some Cassien protein at night before bed. It isn't that ecpensive on bodybuilding.comMCRD October 29. Oh Rah!

LOL..250g @ 170 lbs will kill your kidneys..You need one gram of protein per pound of bodyweight to gain good muscle..2 your size I wouls stay 2 170 to 180 g of protein a day..but of course thats only if you are working out intensely and trying to gain mass..Up your caloric intake and eat 5-6 small meals a day and you will be fine..THANKS FOR THE TRADE SANDIEGO KEEP RIVERS WE'LL TAKE ELIComment

I think I get a good amount of protein to start with. Heck today I had a steak and potatoes for lunch, now I'm about to have 48g worth of protein in a Subway Meatball sub. Before bed I usually eat 2 pb&j sandwiches loaded with peanut butter.Comment

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.
Anyone have any ideas on how to sneak in protein as like a snack during the day? I keep getting in the 110-130g range every day and I want to get that up closer to 175-180.
I was thinking about trying a smoothie or something, but I can never get those to taste decent.Fan of....

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.
I've been working out for nearly 15 years now and I've read countless magazine and online articles on the subject.
What I've learned over the years is this; keep it simple and diet will control how you look a lot more than what you do in the weight room.
I used to think if I do what Mr.Olympia does, I'll look similar to him. Or at the very least, on the road to looking like him.
But that's all bunk. First, Mr.Olympia is loaded with every kind of illegal drug you can think of. Also, he's more than likely a genetic freak that can change his body in ways 99% of the population can't.
Think about it. If it's as easy as 'eat this and lift that', wouldn't every competitive body builder look like a champ? It's not a simple equation and it has a lot to do with genes and drugs.
Would any of us expect to be a world class NBA player if we ate and worked out exactly like Lebron James? No. He has a God-given talent and you can't achieve that in any laboratory. Professional bodybuilders are no different. They're naturals who use drugs to crank it up even further.
So after figuring that out, I like to keep things very simple. I eat 6 meals a day that are high in proteins and low in fat.
In the gym, I concentrate on heavy weight/low rep compound movements such as squats, deadlifts, bench press and chins to get stronger. And then I add 'accessory' movements at high reps to build size (leg press, hammer curls, cable cross overs, etc).
For someone with as high a metabolism as you have, eat, eat, eat.
I wouldn't even worry about what you're eating. I had the same metabolism at 20 and I ate like a pig and drank like a rockstar and still maintained a six-pack.
Now that I'm 35, those days are behind me so I have to watch what I eat and do cardio and all that crap.
But at your age, if you want to gain size/muscle, follow the simple rules of working on compound movements, heavy weights/low reps and consume as much food as possible.
Arnold once said if you want to gain 1" to your arms, you need to add 10lbs on your frame.Last edited by Money99; 04-06-2010, 02:15 PM.Comment

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.
Just switching things up in my workout.
Got a routine from someone on Niketalk and they said that he and his friend had a challenge to see who could bench 135 x 100 times.
So as of late I have been doing 100 reps of various exercises. Worked my back out today.
100 Narrow grip lat pulldowns
50 Standing Rows
50 Back Extentions
I definitely feel that burn
Last week I did 100 hamstring curls, my legs were sore for the rest of the week. Constant stretching for me.Concrete evidence/videos pleaseComment
