Alright, so I'm finally on a consistent workout routine with someone in my dorm and have been doing it for about 3 weeks. While lifting is great, I also need to try and burn some fat. Like stomach fat. Whats the best cardio/running exercise that I can do for that? Like, I've biked on the machines and stuff, but I want to know what is the best to burn stomach fat. Thanks.

If you want to accelerate fat loss look into HIIT (high intensity interval training)
Example:
Stationary bike exercise:
2 minutes at a steady, good pace
:30 busting your a$$
1:00 steady
:30 bust it
1:00 steady
Do for ~15 minutes and you're golden.Comment

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.
Hey stewaat I'm in good shape right now and my diet is great but I could still afford to lose some weight. I haven't worked out as much as I should lately because of lack of time and I would like to get back on track. I like running and a treadmill and a total gym thing is pretty much all I have. Any routines that you can think of?My latest project - Madden 12 http://www.operationsports.com/forum...post2043231648Comment

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.
Those looking to burn fat. DOing long drawn out cardio sessions will hurt you. It hurts your muscle development. WHat you want to do is HIGH INTENSITY cardio. Go all out for short burst, then slow down. Repeat.
Doing that for 20 mins is much better than running at a constant pace for 20 mins on a tradmill/bike

You can:
Gain muscle
Gain fat
Lose muscle
Lose fat
Maintain
Everybody please be politically correct when you talk about losing "weight". You're either losing fat or muscle, and I'm assuming everyone wants to lose fat.
If you're trying to shed some fat you just need to eat great and burn calories. I'd lift weights and be active whether it be running and/or playing sports.
BTW you say your diet is great? What do you eat on a typical day? Do you understand the nutrition labels?

I do agree that 20 minutes of HIIT is better than 20 minutes of jogging...however...there is LISS (low-intensity steady state) that people believe in. They believe that it burns fat effectively and there is some research out there to back this up. Baically they walk on a treadmill for 40-60 minutes or so at 3.5MPH at an incline of like 4 degrees or something like that.
I tried LISS for about a week and I just couldn't do it. I just can't stand walking for that amount of time, I got way too bored. Personally I feel like I need to push my body.
Bottom line is to lose fat you need to burn calories and limit the calories you consume.Comment

First I want to make one thing clear. You can do a couple things when it comes to recomposition:
You can:
Gain muscle
Gain fat
Lose muscle
Lose fat
Maintain

Sounds good. When running do you suggest just hitting it hard all the way or doing some slow and some fast?
I don't do the diet type thing that most body builders do with the eating the same thing every day but my diet has protein, lots of vegetables, lots of fruits, if I'm working out sports drinks (usually vitamin water) for electrolytes and vitamins, starches. I try to keep it well balanced. I typically have 3 meals and a snack or two thrown in. I also drink around 6 glasses of fluids per day. I stay away from eating out or fried fatty foods. I do read labels before I buy something. I also have some DanActive every day for an immunity boost. My latest project - Madden 12 http://www.operationsports.com/forum...post2043231648Comment

B) Focus on what you want to do. Lose fat OR gain muscle?
-Gain muscle = eat ~500 more calories a day and work out hard with the weights and don't do too much cardio
-Lose fat = eat ~500 less calories a day while working out hard and include some cardio.
Do whatever cardio you want just make sure it's 20 min+.
Your diet sounds ok but it's very vague. Some vegetables (corn) are worthless as are some fruits (grapes/apples).Comment

A) Unless you're a "newbie" to working out you can't gain muscle and lost fat. You can do one or the other. There are bulking and cutting stages.

I have Peppers, Broccoli, Collard Greens, Cabbage, Onions. For fruits I eat Pears and assorted types of Berries usually. For starches I have brown rice or pasta. For protein I have ground turkey, some leaner ground beef, steak, or chicken. Mostly Chicken. My latest project - Madden 12 http://www.operationsports.com/forum...post2043231648Comment

Also just want to remind you fat isn't bad for you.
Peanut butter, nuts, fish, and eggs all have good fat in them which provide great energy.
Just remember they are calorie dense though...but they are also more filling.
*Except PB...I know I could eat about half a jar...Comment

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.
I wouldn't suggest eating only cheerios for breakfast if that is what you are doing. That is an incomplete breakfast for the days you don't eat eggs. Honestly I don't know why more folks don't use cereal as strictly a SNACK because thats all it is.
Luckily I JUST saw this video too lol

Yeah, cereal is useless. I don't think I've bought a box of any cereal in five or six years. Not to mention the stuff is insanely expensive."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Most cereals are basically candy. Even cheerios barely have any nutritional value to them. The only ones that are good for you taste terrible.Comment
