Radford or Blacksburg?

I'm sure Blacksburg is more screwed up than Radford right now, but I know a lot of people that go to Radford that are from Blacksburg (myself included) that were freaking out today worrying about friends, loved ones, relatives... Luckily for us, those that are close to us are OK. We won't understand what other families will have to go through.

apparently they thought it was a domestic issue and the shooter was gone. It's a huge campas. They sent out emails but lots of students didn't get it. Not making excuses, as I think more could be done. And this will change colleges everywhere security wise.

Emails?? You got to be kidding me. Not everyone has access and checks their emails. This is a poor way to communicate with everyone.The campuses should have been shut down and locked down after the first shooting. Someone screwed up big time.

Many questions to be answered the next couple of days and weeks.

Again my prayers go out to the people involved, and affected by this tragic event.

But logistically how quick do you think something like that could happen on such a sprawling campus as VT?

Just heard the email was sent at 9:30 am (2 hours after the first shooting). Campus lock down came after 10 ! Crazy. Gonna be some lawsuits.

I think "the country we live in caused this," would be a more accurate statement. This kinda stuff isn't nearly as common in other parts of the world.

I agree there should have been more done to notify the entire campus. Like has been said before, a lot of students don't check e-mails before they head out for class in the morning. I know I had a class cancelled this morning, and didn't realize it until I was sitting in class, along with several other students.

But you have to remember that VT is a huge campus, with 26,000 students or something like that, covering a ton of acres. It isn't the easiest task in the world locking down that large of an area. Using my school as a reference, I don't know how easy it would be, especially when you're under the impression its a domestic issue.

Yeah the e-mail thing is rediculous. I'm not familiar with a large college campus, so I dont know what else could've been done, but it seems like something could've.

Exactly, I'm tired of hearing about blame. Would've, could've, should've. It's easy to say what could've been done when you're looking back.

We're talking about an administration that has to handle 26,000+ students plus faculty over a 2600 acre campus.

My friend told me about an incident where a girl was shot on campus here in Memphis. I hadn't even heard about it. People getting murdered on school campus happens all across the country. Because of one small incident, most if not all schools wouldn't go to the extreme of shutting down the campus.

In the end, the only person that should hold blame is the gunman. Anything else is just ridiculous.

As of right now they haven't even linked the first shooting to the rampage 2 hours later. They are also talking to a person of interest.

There are multiple things they could have done.

-TV.
-Radio.
-E-mails.
-Professors dragging kids into their classrooms and locking the doors*(might not be the best if the gunman was one to be dragged into the room).
-Let as many people as you can know(word of mouth), and tell them to let everyone know.
-Get more police involved, having them set up safe-zones.
-etc...

I dont know dude. Not to take away from this specific event, but theres a lot worse going on in this world. Aside from the tragedy of today, this country is not half as bad as some other countries.

Could you imagine leaving your home and wondering if you were going to get killed by a car bomb or something?
