It's minutes from Pineville and about 15-20 minutes to uptown Charlotte. I live about 10 mintues from the South Carolina border. I'd stay away from East Charlotte unless that's all you can afford.

      Good luck.
That's cool about the gas station. Except for the Adam Morrison encounter. That guy sucks.

you will get shot in that part of town. I stayed at the Fairington when I got out of school. 1 block from Phillips Place and 2 blocks from South PArk. Also had friends at Summit Simsbury, but I think they were sold to another company.

He's right about the heat sucking here. It gets so hot it's rediculous. I'll never get used to it.

Thats pretty far out there...otherside of Independence going down Eastway I believe. Not the best side of town. I would try to look for a place in the south park area.

Ballantyne is great if you're f'ing loaded. But if you're a regular middle class guy, most of the places in that area will be out of your price range.

I have been spending every other week in Charlotte for the last 3 months now.(work) Anyway I would suggest the Pineville area, I have been hanging out there alot and it seems really nice.

Yeah, Pineville is nice... I have also read reports of people who live across the border in South Carolina, and have a relatively short commute to work. I don't know how true that is, because everytime I've been to Charlotte, I-77 is ALWAYS backed up for some reason or another.

I think I need to rethink my search.

What regions are the best from this list?

Going to work out right now...hopefully some good answers will greet me on my return.

And yes, gorgeous young southern women sound very good.

South Charlotte --> South Park. I some some decent places while I scanned over it.

If I were moving back today, I'd find a place in either region #6, 7, or 8. Region #4 is growing rapidly, but if you don't like rednecks, you won't like that area.

Rednecks or hoodlums....I'd take rednecks any day of the week. I did hear that the Northern part was growing fast. Thanks for the input. I'll be back later with some apartment selections.

                                Re: Anyone from Charlotte?

South Charlotte is the more upscale part of town, if you have money and want to be in that kind of setting, look there. NODA has undergone major overhauls the past few years and is suddenly a very nice part of town, it is the artsy part of town if that is what you are into, it is the closest place to uptown that isn't really sketchy(they call downtown "uptown" here, get used to that). Stay away from West Charlotte, period. Further west is Gastonia which I personally wouldn't want to live there, but I know many people who do.

Northeast Charlotte is where UNCC is. In the area immediately surrounding the school(which is located on highway 49) isn't the best place to live because the cheap student off-campus housing is becoming overrun with low-income families rather than students. Go a few miles north up W.T Harris Blvd. and you will come to a selection of nice apartments in the Davis Lake area. There is a new, nice mall up that way. The general area of the intersection of Harris & 77 is good. If you go east from the school you will start getting into more of the country area, Cabarrus County. The only part of Cabarrus I would suggest looking at is some of the apartments directly around Concord Mills(a big outlet mall) which are pretty nice and you are barely in the Cabarrus County limit, getting to Charlotte isn't a problem from there.

There are a string of cities to east of Charlotte on 74. Matthews, Indian Trail and Monroe are all decent places to live, getting a few miles outside of Charlotte would save you a lot on rent.

If you can afford it, moving up north on 77 to the Lake Norman/Cornelius area would be the ideal place IMO. Huntersville is a nice median between the Lake Normal area and Charlotte as well, and much cheaper than Lake Norman.
