If it's anything like what McDonald's just introduced here, I'll have to agree with that one.

After being pretty much addicted to Dr. Pepper, Coke, Mountain Dew and whatever else for a long time I've been off for 14 months now and best choice I ever made.

All I pretty much drink now is water, milk, and sometimes Gatorade or juice. And tea sometimes as well.

To the people in this thread who say they get headaches if they stop drinking soda for a few hours...

It's because you're body is going through an insulin spike (well, a drop at that point) from the hundreds of grams of sugar you put into your body and because you are so dehydrated. It has nothing to do with an addiction to soda. Drink a liter of water after you've had your 5-10 sodas (or whatever crazy number it is) and I guarantee you'll feel better.

Anyway, kudos to the guys who have kicked soda, it really is terrible for you. When I was a kid I probably drank a 2-liter a day of A&W Root Beer. I haven't drank soda in probably four-five years now unless it's a Diet Coke w. something "special" mixed in with it. Now I drink water 95% of the time (about 1.5-2 gallons per day) with the occasional tea and Propel sometimes after a workout if I'm really dying or not in the mood for water. Milk and OJ on very rare occasions, probably once or twice a month.

So for the young guys, it's not the end of the world unless you're already obese. I just hope you can kick it the habit by your mid-20's otherwise you'll head down a not-so-fun road once your youthful metabolism starts slowing down.

Would Gatorade do the same thing as far as relieving the headache? There's just no way I'm drinking water. About a month ago my one friend offered me 5 dollars to drink a 20 oz. bottle of Dasani and I said no, that's how much I hate it. The weight thing I really don't have a problem with because I need it. When one of your nicknames is cancer, you start to not care about if you gain muscle weight or fat.

No. Gatorade is just as bad for you as soda. Read the labels man, don't let marketing tell you what's good for you and what isn't. Off the top of my head I believe a Coke has 39g sugar and Gatorade has 33g.

And as someone else said in this thread, you don't want to gain the wait from soda, it's just not healthy. But to be honest you sound just like me when I was 15. I used to tell my parents that all the time, "I'll eat like crap all day and it'll help me put on weight finally!". Trust me from experience, it's a bad idea. I also used to hate water as well (drank a ton of milk and soda as a kid) but now I love it. Sooner or later you'll probably see the light. Until then, you're young, don't sweat it too much.

Re: Kicking The Soft Drink Habit

A little bit of advice to all soda drinkers. There's a reason why a lot of you(if not all of you) get headaches. It's because soda is a DIURETIC and it dehydrates the hell out of you just like alcohol, cranberry juice, etc. It doesn't matter if it's Coke, Pepsi, Sierra or if it's diet soda or regular either, their all the same. 90% of all headaches are caused by, guess what? DEHYDRATION. You get thirsty and drink soda, get dehydrated, get even more thirsty, drink more soda, and the vicious cycle continues. I've said it before and I'll say it again, soda(regular or diet) is one of the worst things you can put into your body.

Gatorade is good, BUT it must be diluted 50% with water(cut it in half). The molecules are too large to be absorbed when drank straight. Also, by cutting it in half with water you also reduce the sugar, carbs, and calories by 50% as well. BTW Gatorade only has 14 grams of sugar per 8 oz, soda has almost three times that amount.

Yeah but who drinks 8oz Gatorades? 28g of sugar per bottle. The same guys on here who chug soda like there's no tomorrow aren't going to have a half a bottle of Gatorade.

That's why powdered Gatorade is the way to go. One 8oz scoop and a ton of water.

                          Well, 8 oz Gatorade+8 oz Water=16 oz.

"Southern" sweet tea is alright. But raspberry tea from Sonic is delicious.

And I caved in last night. I was at Subway and they didn't have any non-bottled water so I caved and got a sprite. But other than that, water and juice.

Your hurting yourself so much by not drinking water man. Your muscles need water to help grow. I bet if you were to drink more water your muscles would get bigger just because they never get water and your body is dehydrated. Exactly how much water would you say you drink in a week?

Like others have said you don't want to gain weight from drinking soda. Your going to end up getting just a big belly and your arms and legs will still be skinny. And trust me you don't want to end up looking like that.
