well if he would have called your all-in pre flop with 9-3... then there's not much you can do other than realize if you play your game... eventually over time you'll beat him more times then not.

Welcome to play chips.
I would have shoved the flop with that much money in pre, and to be fair with the small bet/raise you made he was getting odds to chase his gutshot+ace, especially if he knew you would pay him off if he hit as you did.Comment

Re: The Official Poker Thread
GSW - just wondering, but what was the buy-in for that tournament? You should've probably pushed it all in after he re-raised you, though he probably would've still called that even with nothing but a gutshot straight. That's the thing about poker, the best hand and/or player doesn't always win, but over the long haul you'll come out on top.I do because I can, I can because I want, I want because you say I can'tComment

Re: The Official Poker Thread
If you overbet, I don't know if he would have called. He seemed hell-bent on finding out if that flush was gonna come, though. I think it's just a case of the wrong cards coming out for you.Comment

Re: The Official Poker Thread
Damn, I'm so excited for today. This is the second time I'm going to this guys house this summer. The first time we went he had about 30-35 guys $125 buy in, four tables going at once, tons of beer, two BBQs cooking, he hired a waitress to serve us. It was awesome. The first time I went I got knocked out very early on, but a few of us started another quick game $20 buy in and I ended up winning that game. After that we played a few cash games and then started up another tourny with about 20 heads $50 buy in. Poker all day from noon to midnight.
Hopefully today I get deep into the big tourny.

Re: The Official Poker Thread
Tough fold to make there GSW with pot odds of nearly 7:1. Very hard to lay down any kind of hand with those odds and no cards to come. After all, wouldn't you expect to have the best hand 14% of the time? Since he showed it makes you feel good, but over the long run I'm not so sure about that play unless you had picked up on earlier betting patterns from him. The flat call does seem like a flush draw though.
On the other hand, you had just the right amount of chips left to be able to fold and still have some play left, which is good.Comment

Re: The Official Poker Thread
Sunday I played in a 14 man $100 buy in tourny. I was playing great poker, but in the end I finished third to win my buy in back.
Early in the game I was dealt AsKh. I was chip lead with about 4000 and the guy to my left was the short stack with about 1800. I was first to act, so I decided to slow play and just limp in. Everyone folded to the short stack and he raised it up 600. I reraise to 1600 hoping to push him all in, and he did. He showed pocket Kings. Flop came out all hearts, and the river was another heart for me to pick up the flush.
Another hand, I was once again chip lead and the shirt stack was to my right. He raised it up a little and I called with Ad4d. He called and the flop was 7s,2c,Jd. I check and he pushed all in. I had a feeling he didn't hit anything on the board so I called him. He had Ah4h to my Ad4d. The turn and the river were diamonds to give me another flush.
At that point there were only three people left and I was the substantial chip lead. Unfortunately, that meant I had to call every all in whenever I had a decent hand, and I lost just about everyone until I was now the short stack. I started to go all in whenever I had a decent hand and I won about 12 showdowns putting me right back in the game. I finally got dealt K,10 and decide to push all in again to collect the blinds because they were pretty high to this point and it would've put me at the chip lead. The chip leader called with a J/2 and he hit a 2 on the river ending my day.
Would've like to have won it all, but it was fun nonetheless.
BTW, the start of the Main Event is on ESPN tonight.Comment

That is LOUSY, DD. Losing to a pair of twos in a big tournament like that after the rollercoaster day.
What was the payout of the tourney?Comment

Re: The Official Poker Thread
1st 800
2nd 300
3rd 100
Once I busted out, the last two guys chopped the pot. They would've chopped with me, but I refused because I felt I was going to win.Comment

Re: The Official Poker Thread
Damn. You could have came away with 4x the buy-in. At least you were confident in winning though. Seems like you should have won, but there will be other tournaments.Comment
