You have the wrong impression of the folks from Cali.

How did they possibly survive without a "necessity" for so long? You might as well be saying your computer is a necessity.

You're looking at it very subjectively and relatively. It's like the millionare trying to convince you that his yacht is a necessity that he can't do without. Just because it *feels* like a necessity to you, doesn't mean it is.
Humans also lived for thousands of years without refrigerators or sanitation systems. Just because cars are recent technology doesn't mean that they aren't necessities. A lot of people don't live near public transportation or have public transportation systems that take way longer than just driving.

Americans are not going to stop driving so the solution to the problem is to move to hybrids or alternative powered cars once the technology gets better.

Wow, I hadn't checked oil prices in a while. They are up to $91.20. That is insane. If they continue to go up which I imagine they will, this summer should be the worst ever. Wouldn't surprise me if it was up $3.50-$4 a gallon by this summer.

My bad, I thought that whole state was mostly hippies from some of the crazy laws I hear about them passing. Note to self, if I ever am forced to move to KaliforNia, God forbid, I will move to San Diego.

I remember the days when I would fill up my tank with premium for $13. Now I'm lucky if I fill it with $40.

Costs $25 for me to fill up my car. I fill up about once a month so gas is not expensive IMO.

Just a little perspective: gasoline, even at $3 per gallon, is still less than half the price it is throughout Europe, where in some countries it is more than $7 per gallon. Also worth noting: I bought a gallon of orange juice the other day for $3.89; people buy liters of water for $2. Gas is still technically one of the cheapest 'liquids' on the market.

Yeah, compare it to bottled water yet people still willingly buy that by the gallons and never complain a peep.

It's still pathetic compared to where we were prior to Katrina.

I have noticed a trend lately that gas here in Memphis is hovering between $2.55 and $2.65 for a few months now. It's kind of nice not having to watch it fluctuate so much.

I respect you as a poster, but leave this crap out. Its crap like this that makes politics suck!

Gas is at 2.79 here which is a lot higher than it was 2 weeks ago.
