People today have too thin of skin. A simple word or name makes everyone freak out. Last I checked, these mascots weren't going around scalping the fans.
Are you not seeing the OBVIOUS difference here?

Have you seen protests of people claiming Yankees are offensive? I know I haven't. Have you seen protests of NATIVE AMERICAN people claiming certain mascots are offensive? I know I HAVE. Its not just "a simple word or name" to some of these people.

And Yankee doesn't have nearly the same connotation as Redskin.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

I will say that I wouldn't be against a name change for the Washington Redskins. I can see how that is offensive and wrong. I agree that a team should not be named after such an awful act as what has been claimed.

However, that is the only case where I feel that way. The Seminoles, Braves, Indians, Fighting Illini, etc.. shouldn't have to change their names or mascots. None of those(as far as I know) are named after such awful things as with the Redskins.

I'm not against the actual name change as much as I am the actual depiction of mascots itself. Like I've said, white guys running around in so-called traditionally native dress, the "Tomahawk Chop," and "Chief Knock-A-Homa" for example.

Redskins definately needs to be changed though. I doubt it ever will since Indians represent such a small minority and the Redskins are one of the most valuable franchises in all of sports.

I think it's pretty offensive. There's something not right about seeing some drunk college frat boy's doing the "Indian yodel" (I can't think of a more descriptive name, when you pat your open hand against your mouth as you say "ohhhh") at a sporting event.

People just don't seem to care about Native Americans that much. That's why you don't see people getting in too much of an uproar about these types of things. The thinking likely is "well it's always been like that, who am I to change anything".

The intent isn't to make fun of anyone. By that logic wouldn't the team who is playing the Redskins have the "idiots" running around in native dress? If you're in favor of something how can you be making fun of it?

The more I think about it, the more I want a name change for the Washington Redskins.

No reason for a team to be named after such a brutal thing. The "Indian Yodel" thing doesn't bother me all that much, but then again I am not an indian. However, having an NFL team make a profit off of something named after something so brutal isn't right. That is like having a team called the "St. Louis Genocides."

How do you think the poor Rams feel? They live in the mountains, nearly starve and live a meager existence, and yet the St. Louis Rams football team callously makes money off of them and doesn't compensate them a single dime.

Because a Ram(who by the way is not being insulted at all) is the same as insulting an entire group of people. Good to see where you stand.

                          They're rams.

These are actual people. Albeit none of these people who are complaining probably know anyone who has been scalped. However, it's still pretty bad to have a profitable orginization named after something so brutal as what "redskin" is referred to.

I never said they were making fun of it. They believe these acts are a way to "honor" and "respect" Native Americans when in fact it makes things even worse.

If you really think that comparing the St. Louis Rams to the Washington Redskins is equal, then I don't know what to tell you. That's like saying since I'm against global warming, then I'm a staunch advocate against using the name "Miami Heat."
