You know what's a real ****ty thing to do to your students?
Making a final that's worth 40% of your grade only 40 questions. I'm not a math major, but that's 10% of your grade every 10 questions.
Oh and btw, there's only 3 grades in the class & they're all exams. Good luck!
I'm fine with exams being the only thing graded in the class. I'm not here to be babied through. It's not preferred, but that's life. But for God's sake, don't pin so many points on something so small. And may thy spirit live in us, Forever LSU

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
^What's even worse are exams that determine if you pass or fail. You could go into the final exam with a 90% or something, get a 49% on the final exam, and fail the course. Sure, if you have a 90% going into the final exam, it should mean you've been doing well on the course and all and shouldn't have any problem with the final exam, but it's not always the case. Exams and cases/assignments are completely different things.
It's one thing I've actually hated during my years in school. I've always done well on assignments, but the tests/exams are what kill my grade. I actually think teachers who mark my exams are probably wondering what's going on,cause I've done so well on assignments and all,but then when it comes exam/test time, it's like a completely different person doing it. I'd rather be graded based on what I can actually do, over what I can or can't remember.
I still remember one class I did so well on the final exam, not cause I even understood a single thing in the course, I just memorized all the past quizzes we got(since every exam question was gonna be questions straight off those quizzes). I know some people who have good memory, but never bothered to learn anything in the course, just memorize stuff and get good marks all the time.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I think you mean losing a shootout to a team who sucks at shootouts lol.
I know Wings are one of the biggest supporters of changing the OT format, and I really hope it does happen. I hate the shootouts. Just have 5 min 4 on 4 OT and another 3 on 3 min OT if nothing gets solved before then. If it's a tie, then so be it(and both get 1 point each) but if a team wins, they get 2 points(and eliminate loser points,so that way, teams will be more concerned about winning over being like "at least we got 1 point out of it")Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Math is a good example. Most people can execute the actual equations if they have the needed information, but if you ask them to explain the equation and how it works along with the various theories they may struggle with it.And may thy spirit live in us, Forever LSU

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Not to mention when they ask you specific definitions of terms and stuff. They want the exact answer from the textbook, when you might know that term in different words than what's used from the textbook.
Though "judgment call" questions are the worse, where your mark really depends on the teacher and how they're feeling when marking. One of my old teachers even said that if someone felt real unhappy about a mark, see if they can show it to another teacher and see what they say(this was back in high school,so not as easily applied in university/college), cause sometimes teachers give very diff marks on stuff.
I've seen it happen before to some of my friends. One semester one of my friends handed in something, got 80% on it. A later semester another one of my friends took that same course, and handed in that exact same assignment to the teacher and got a 60%. It wasn't cause the teacher recognized the assignment at all or anything, they just simply found abunch of supposed flaws they never found last time around(even though it was exact same assignment/grading criteria). I could understand maybe like a 5% difference, but something as huge as a 20% difference is way too big of a differential. No consistency whatsoever.Last edited by Majingir; 12-11-2014, 01:24 AM.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
They didn't actually do that cause they were lazy, just wanted to prove a point that this teacher was an inconsistent marker. What better way then handing in an assignment that teacher graded in the past(but didn't remember) and seeing how different of a mark it'd be.Comment

which I put as my answer and it was marked wrong. I don't think I said anything about it even though I knew I was correct since I hadn't used the term from our book/lessons.
