I live in SW Ohio and couldn't believe the crazy difference in cold and snow just 3 hours north in Kent. People at home would be getting inches of snow while we're getting feet up north. Glad to not be up there in the winter anymore.

Yeah its crazy. When I lived in Columbus it would be like 50 and sunny and in my hometown on the lake it was 30 and 10 inches of snow. Had some crazy weather differences in just short distances.

Not to mention trying to read comments on a call you're going to as they come in, since dispatch can be a while behind on the uptake depending upon how busy they are, and those comments can provide crucial information for officer safety purposes.

We must have the same dispatchers...

Luckily...we have quite a good dispatching system for both P.D. and F.D.
All runs are announced on air....and if there is any C.I.D.S.....it is announced that it is available on request.(Critical Information)
Also.....any changes to or additional info received is announced and must be confirmed by the units on the run.

I still spin the computer around and read it myself as I quickly scan for any pertinent and/or cross streets etc so I can plan my route while visually confirming it. Much better than hearing from Queens or my officer.
I would say that most regular chauffeurs(and especially the senior ones) do this as well.
My officers know by now and just spin the computer around for me without me asking.

              Side note:
This will grind some of your gears....I got to watch "The Seven Five" yesterday(not me watching it....but the content and what went down)......my precinct when I was on P.D. a LOOOOONG time ago. Fascinating documentary that if it was made as a movie and you didn't know it was a true story, you would think it was an utterly ridiculous over the top plot.
(I must admit.....good times back then....like the Wild West......but I think suffice to say....I'm not a fan of the B.S. that went with it. I'll refrain from any more badmouthing....but I wouldn't piss on Michael Dowd and his crew if he was on fire)

True, but not the point I was going after. Went up to north WI this weekend to see the girlfriend's family, and because I'm from Texas it's as if I they think I will spontaneously explode into a ball of snow and ice if I walk outside when it's below 32* out. Meanwhile I was just fine in short sleeves and a semi-heavy jacket. While all of the natives were had 47 thermo layers of clothing on for short trips between being in a car and inside.

Every Mall, shopping center leading up to Christmas. All the roads are packed around them leading to traffic pileups, once you finally pull in the parking lots are completely packed, and finding a parking spot is a job within itself. Not to mention you have people cutting each other off just to squeeze into spots, and people driving like morons in these parking lots with no regard to hitting pedestrians.

And all that's before you even get in the stores! Once you finally enter your store of choice you usually find it completely trashed with merchandise on the floor, and a lot of things out of stock. Everybody is impatient, and anxious as they are all scrambling to find their gifts, and the employees are usually miserable, and hate their lives as they've had enough of the Christmas blitz themselves.

Yeah... tis the season. If I was smart I would've done Christmas shopping well in advance, or online and saved the hassle.

Yeah I've been trying to figure out the best time to hit the mall. But the wife insists we must go tonight so all my planning is out the window...

This mall is the worst because we get people from PA, MD, and NJ come down to shop tax free. So not only is it crazy volume, they don't know where the hell they are or are going.

I've lived in Baton Rouge for almost eight years and in that time I've only been to the mall twice in December. Both times were when I first moved here and I learned my lesson. It's either early or online shopping for me... and since I'm a procrastinator it's usually online shopping.

Concord Mall in Northern DE. Minutes from the PA border, bit farther for NJ and MD.

Actually got out of work early and hit it. It was crowded but not insane.
