I just don't feel people like that should be able to own pets. When you don't take care of your dog it usually doesn't end well.

I put my dogs on a tie out every time they go out. They do a good job of staying in their normal area, but I wouldn't risk it.
Yea man I moved to a "richer" part of town and in these apartments the clientele is entitled with their dogs. They probably paid good money for training so they let their dog of the leash and waltz around like it's a status thing...like THEIR dog is so well behaved they can just walk around leashless.

There are a few frequent offenders and I've only had one close call. I have a pit mix that I wouldn't want a random dog to run up to because they're probably losing that battle and it'll suck but it's not going to be my fault...

At the end of the day it's a dog

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?

Some people just underestimate their dog or something. Even on leashes though. Sometimes I'll walk past someone walking their dog and then their dog either barks at me or seems to want to sniff my leg or something. The owner tugs on the leash all surprised like they never expected their dog to not walk a perfectly straight line, never interacting with other people.

But never let dog off leash, especially in public areas, no matter how trained it is. People see dog off leash coming towards them, they aren't exactly gonna be letting guards down not knowing what the dog will do next. Might be friendliest dog ever, other people don't know that and assume bad things in those moments.

If I didn't put a leash on my 2 dogs they would run off and I'd never see them again.

even with a leash I have to keep my dog from being an idiot, he has no vehicle awareness whatsoever, can't imagine (and don't want to) what it would be like if he was free to run around and make his own decisions

Yeah my dog only stays on a leash if she's going to be around other dogs or if there are little kids present where we are walking. Not that she would intentionally hurt the kids, she's amazing with my son, but she gets excited and jumps and she knocks the kids down.

But if we are walking trails in the woods, I'll turn her loose and she runs free but is always mindful to stay close to me and is great at returning to me when called.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?

I am so terrified of ever letting anything bad happen to my dog, or letting my dog cause something bad to happen to anyone/anything else, that I am overly careful outside. He's the sweetest dog I have ever known, but he does get a little crazy outside and around new people/other pets. I always have him on a harness and a pretty short leash (I don't trust retractable's).

I just would never forgive myself if I let something bad happen.

One of my friends had some girl start banging on his door screaming for help. Turned into quite the ordeal. His neighbor had collapsed on the kitchen floor and it was her daughter banging on his door panicking not knowing what to do.
