... as if to insinuate that we only eat things that either taste like apple or taste like the name of the product. It's like if somebody questioned why I had a guinea pig for a pet because it doesn't oink like a pig.

In fact, I would despise my cereal tasting like apple. I don't much love Apple Jacks either way, though. I know, I know... that was probably the point of marketing it that way, so kids would consider eating it if they knew that. I just don't get the parents' point of stating what they do.

And no, I'm not overthinking this. I'm actually afraid I'm underthinking it, because I personally think it's poor scriptwriting.
Yea, I do think you are overthinking it.

Can you name another product that doesn't taste the way it's named?

I'd be pretty mad if I bought a beef jerky stick that turned out to be made from venison.

Coming from NJ and moving to NC it was the phrase "Fixing to" used in lieu of "going to"

I don't know why, but the first I heard someone I'm fixing to go on break I was like, why would you need to fix something to go on break?

When people say "Frisco" and not "San Francisco." I'm from the Bay Area, but I always hated that word and it's something everyone uses here.

I'm not saying they do or don't have to taste like apple (and if you're saying they do, then I suppose we can call that your gear-grinder of sorts). I just don't get how the question he asks matches the statement he makes thereafter. They just seem like two completely different topics of conversation, despite the fact they're talking about the same product. I'm not seeing the leap here.

I did the guinea pig example, but let me try again:

"Why do you guys like X-Box? It's not shaped like an X."
"Why do you guys like Round Table Pizza? Their tables aren't round."
"Why do you guys like the White Sox? Their socks are black. 'Socks' isn't even spelled right."

Like these many stupid statements, I can think of dozens of reasons I might like these things besides the thing that is mentioned... and secondly I honestly don't know what the thing that's mentioned has to do with asking why somebody likes them.

If you are contending that they should be marketing that Apple Jacks don't taste like apple, I would actually be agreement with you. In fact, that makes sense; I'd love for my cereal to not taste like apple! I don't see how the question that is asked pertains to the lack of apple taste. I just feel it could be shoehorned in a different way.

That novel pretty much shows that.

I always figured the point of those commercials was to appeal to kids. Parents ask why because they don't get it, so the cereal must be cool

I hate the password one. One of the sites I use at work when you change your password every 30 days you can't use the last 15 or so passwords so I frequently have to keep resetting it as I can never remember what my new password is.

Same goes for many other times I have to change my password on all diff accounts I got. Upper/lowercase letters and numbers and special characters. If it wasn't for my computer's password manager, I'd be lost in terms of logging in. It has happened before where I needed to log in to an account but I don't know my password since I wasn't on my own computer.

Department of Defense logins are the worst. Can't use last 15. 2 uppercase, 2 lowercase, 2 numbers and 2 special characters.
