People who use the express checkout when they have 20-30 items and you only have two items.

It's not a big company so I'm sure they'll be lenient.

I mean it'd be illegal for them to not pay you lol. I'm sure they'll work it out one way or another, but I hear you otherwise. Guess it depends on people's financial situation at the time but I had a 2 week break between leaving my last job and starting my current one. Served as a decent vacation minus it being unpaid for but that was my own choice.

Going in on 1st day with no lunch, basically straight out of bed, no parking spot yet, with an unknown schedule. Just a mess of a first day.
Couldn't you have asked them about these things when they called you in? lol. Employee number...so in Canada you guys take a number like when you're at the deli counter in a supermarket? Instead of calling each other by names at work?

Canadians too polite to call each other names.

            Not sure what you mean?

All of my employees have unique identifying employee ID numbers which is used on their stubs but I don't refer to them as their number.

Unless I"m missing something the process he's describing is pretty typical for most businesses big or small.

Edit: To be clear, I mean about how to pay them, not the whole calling in before they are actually employed part. That's asinine.

                MLB related:

Umpires not calling lefties out when their back foot comes out of the box on drag bunts. It probably happens more than half of the time.

Before you bring it up, I'm aware the entire foot needs to be out of the box or any part needs to touch the plate with contact made. Saw it both last night and tonight. I paused it to be sure.

Granted, in both cases the batter was out on the bunt anyway, but it should be an automatic dead ball and out, 2-unassisted in the scorebook.

Sure, employees have numbers and so do businesses for payment and tax purposes. I chose to interpret it in a way where I could make a Canadian joke, however. I regret that it was unfunny.

I don't think there's anything for him to worry about--all of the paperwork (I-9 or Canadian equivalent form, forms of ID, direct deposit, insurance, etc) usually gets taken care of on day 1 after a nice visit to HR. The fretting about having the number before starting was what I went on about. Certainly you'd know if you were taking a paid or unpaid position regardless of whether you had an employee number yet or not.

Comcast... I'm moving to a new apartment and opened up an account with them because I've had them with my parents and my last apartment and never had an issue outside of normal weather outages. However, I now see why people can't stand their customer service. My last place had cable/internet included so it wasn't in my name. I never had to actually deal with them until now...

Long story short.. while the agents I talked to were nice and professional, it took me 4 phone calls to get my order straight because all their agents seem to say completely different things or do things like add DVR service when I didn't ask for that or tell me you gave me the double play package when you didn't(according to my email order confirmation).

And 4 phone calls later I'm still not sure if my order is right. I'm waiting for the email confirmation to be sure. Hopefully my business with them goes better than it started.

I believe they have held that title multiple years. At least 4 years running if my memory serves ne right.

Just wait till the bill goes up in price randomly. Had to fight with Comcast just to get the price they quoted me at the local office.

Or they charge you for something they said you could get for free.

Being at work with essentially nothing to do all day long

Don't get me wrong, it's nice at times to have little to nothing to do, and it's better than being overworked to death, but at the same time it's nice having a sense of purpose throughout the day instead of wondering what I should be doing half the time.

As much as I understand that, my line of work (high school teaching) dictates that if you feel like you have nothing to do, you actually have a lot more that you can do than you realize.

That includes my lazy summer session I've had so far.
