Problem is they have yet to become moths, they are still in a caterpillar phase. Any place where there are trees is infested. So bad that it sounds like rain fall from these things calling out of trees. Hell, we are under quarantine because of these things. Other places don't want us bringing them across state lines.

I hate bugs to begin with. So this is like the waking dead for me.

They go in cycles. We had them in my hometown when I was in HS. Since where I'm from is a giant forest, there were stretches of the highway where the crushed caterpillars were so thick they were causing accidents because it was like black ice.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?

I've been seeing a few of those forest tent caterpillars outside of my front door. Sprayed some anti-insect material, and the next day they were dead. Then the next day I see a couple more. But nothing major, just a few.

I think I contacted the city last summer to ask what to do and they said unless it's a major problem there isn't much to do, they'll be gone at some point.

The tree in front of my house on the boulevard looks just fine, and never had any issues with these insects, so I don't think it's a major problem for now.

Add this to the list of the 1,102,987 reasons why I don't like summer. 5 months until these *mf*'s freeze with the rest of them...I'll be counting the days.

Also saw one of these larger ant-like with wings in my house. I see a few of them every summer inside the house. Not sure how they get inside, as we have nets on every window. Unless they find their way through the heating duct or something like that.

I'll take a caterpillar and even a moth over almost any other insect any day. But anything that comes in droves like that would be annoying.

I hadn't seen a caterpillar in a long time but I've seen about 4 or 5 this summer. They used to be a lot more rampant back when I was a kid. Same thing for lightning bugs. Apparently it's not just childhood memory, they actually are dying out in the area. Some band I listen to wrote a song about it. Ha

Not sure if they have them in your city but they're called "roundabouts".

I don't know who was the genius who thought of these instead of simply designing a straight road with stop signs/lights.

But you're basically supposed to either yield to oncoming traffic or just go straight through. It's crazy.

Haha. It's funny because I'm on vacation with the family in Vail, Colorado and they have these here. Man, everytime I get to one I get stressed because people drive crazy in them. We don't have them in San Diego thank god.

There's a few of them around my area...I don't find them confusing.

Yeah, if you know how they operate, they're quite a breeze to get through. There are a bunch in Denver now and it's great.

We have some that were just built in my area and a bunch more coming. I will take a roundabout over a red light or four-way stop any day. With that said, the ones here are all on two-lane roads, if there were more than two lanes, then I guess it would be more confusing.

I will say, it's weird because the road splits to two lanes leading up to the intersection and the lane that stays straight actually becomes the left turn lane and the lane that cuts off to the right from it is a right/straight lane. As such, the road across the intersection is directly ahead of the turn lane so it looks good... if you ignore the signs on the side of the road and the markers on the road itself.

It's poorly designed, no doubt, but people don't pay attention. Making it worse is people not using their turn signals. I always assume they're just gonna go straight through the intersection if they don't have a signal on.
                                That is just as bad.
