Re: You know what really grinds my gears?

I mean, everything they make at a restaurant can be made at home. The ingredients are typically right there at the grocery store. To me the biggest obstacle is having the equipment. Who’s got a flat top grill like a restaurant? Deep fryer?

Plus, if you buy the ingredients, you’re making multiple of whatever you’re trying to make, not just one like you can buy at a drive thru. Hope you like leftovers.

In the end, it never tastes like how the restaurant makes it anyway. I can make a burger a million times better then McDonald’s, but it doesn’t taste like McDonald’s. I go to McDonald’s because I want a burger on my 30 minuet lunch break, not because I think it’s better then what I can make at home. It’s just more convenient.

I guess it depends on how much. They make a small profit on one item you buy or a bigger profit when you go to the store and order a whole meal.

There also has to be an element of "the less they know about how we make these and what goes into them, the better."

Maggiano's Little Italy is one of my favorite restaurants. Not only do they disclose every single recipe of theirs, but you also get to "buy one, get one free" by taking a meal home with you as well.

That’s a dangerous situation. I was convinced the one at our old apartment complex was a ticking time bomb. Glad we’re out. Good spot otherwise though.

My gear grinder: when someone asks your opinion, and specifically, they give you two options. When you pick the one they aren’t leaning towards, then they disregard your input and pick the one they were already favoring.

                      Assurance or validation.

Oh wait, I read your post completely wrong. I thought you said that they only choose your opinion if they themselves like it.

On the other hand, maybe they wanted to hear a devil's advocate position and see if it was strong enough. Otherwise you're right, I don't understand why they do that.

So they can be like "Don't say I didn't ask" lol.

But really, it's basically just like a coin flip. You don't know how you truly feel about one of two choices until the choice is temporarily made up. Then you're like "actually, I think I'd rather the other option"
