And men's college basketball has under 16, under 12, under 8, and under 4 minute media time outs.I was floored when I learned hockey games take TV timeouts at the 14 minute mark, 10, and 6 or maybe it was 4. Actually quite convenient to know when attending a game if you want to refresh your beverage or relieve your bladder.Steelers : IX, X, XIII, XIV, XL, XLIII

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
This is possibly true for TV. Don't think it applies for radio. I didn't mention a third local sports talk radio station (FM 95.7) that does a morning show that I now listen to most. They say "back in sixty seconds" or "back in two minutes," and they really mean it. Not only that, these guys do an hour-long commercial-free segment from 7:15-8:15 AM every weekday morning as well. Don't know how they're able to bring all of that to us, but it's nice.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I run across commercials at the same time when watching sports. Definitely something that irks me. Everytime this happens and I'm watching games with my cousin, I'll just look to him and say illuminati. He'll just laugh because he knows exactly what Im talking about.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
That's what I like about hockey breaks, you know exactly when it's coming. Assuming it's not a goal, penalty or icing disrupting it. I can get up and leave before the timeout whistle goes, basically getting a head start on the break without missing anything.I think it may just have to do with commercial breaks being slotted at certain segments of a show. So if it’s a 30 minute episode, at the 8 minute mark, 18, 22, etc.
Just a hunch.

What are the NBA times for these TV timeouts?Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
In Boston’s finale there was a period (I think the second) where they didn’t get a chance to break for commercial until about the five minute remaining mark if I recall.
Since they don’t break for first commercial until the 13 minute mark they got caught in power play and icing purgatory and just didn’t get a chance.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
NBA: There must be two timeouts in the first and third quarters and three in the second and fourth quarters. In the first and third quarters, if no team has called a timeout before the 5:59 mark, a timeout is charged to the home team, and if no subsequent timeout is taken prior to the 2:59 mark, a timeout is charged to the team not previously charged with a timeout. In the second and fourth quarters, the 5:59/2:59 mark required timeout rules are the same as the first/third quarter rules; in addition, if no timeout is taken before the 8:59 mark, a mandatory timeout is called by the official scorer but not charged to either team. The required timeouts are 100 seconds long; the other full timeouts are 60 seconds in length. That's what I like about hockey breaks, you know exactly when it's coming. Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Radio it's hit or miss for me....most obviously have commercials at the end of the hour...in the middle it'll just depend. I'll flip through the 5ish that are around here for sports talk and usually find something. There are times they're all on commercial though. This is possibly true for TV. Another thing I hate about Chrome. If I have find in page open, and open a new tab or go to a different page it won't automatically search with the page again. Even if you hit ctrl+f again it doesn't re-search, have to modify what you typed.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Getting a spam/phishing call from a New York #, leaving an automated voice mail with a female Stephen Hawking voice telling me that I need to call "headquarters," within "24 working hours," or the local cops will come and arrest me, because there are 4 counts against me. All sorts of bad grammar too. Ok.
That's some aggressive marketing.Last edited by dubcity; 04-18-2018, 05:07 PM.Comment
