^ Thank you, I didn't even see that. That 110 WPM does come with its occasional hiccups.

In the end, they're basically working 8 months a year, 7.5 hours a day (with 1 hour lunch)
WTNY kinda covered this...but man, without even getting into the money aspect, you're really underselling how much work is involved. There are lesson plans and grading the kids' work in their "down" time. There are meetings and phone calls with who knows how many parents. Running after school programs (either by choice or stepping up and sacrificing their time so the kids don't miss out on something). That one Friday a month they have off? They're probably still at school most of the day, completing mandated professional development.

That's on top of the obvious - dealing with 20+ kids five days a week, trying to find ways to motivate and engage them for those ten months.

I thought had a general idea of how much extra was involved in teaching, but I didn't realize just how much until I started working with teachers. They deserve the breaks they get.

Count me out on being in charge of 20+ kids anywhere from 6-18 years old too.

I happen to think education is the most important thing we can do for our children, so they could pay teachers what athletes are paid and I’d still say they’re underpaid.

If you like having the bubble gut KFC is your place, that's the only thing I've ever gotten when I've eaten there. Never had a meal from there I enjoyed.

Don't eat there ofter but I do love Popeyes, live in Louisiana so they're everywhere here. I used to live in North Carolina and Bojangles wasn't too bad.

its really a catch22 when it comes to paying teachers what they deserve.
if you pay 'em whats right, then you'll see more people go into just for the money, like any other high paying occupation.
pay 'em what they're making now and the people who go into teaching (less of 'em in for money, anyways) wont be in it for the money but rather because how important it is to teach the youths (utes?) who are the future of the country. I try to thank the men and women who serve in the armed forces when ever I can but I also need to make a better effort to do the same with teachers. So let me start here and now.
            Big thanks to Blzr.

Pay them more money and they can be more selective.

I know I'm in the minority but the pay ain't bad to me. I also can't complain about a job that gives me holidays off and 3 months in the middle of the year while still paying me. Outside of those in really ****ty districts and charter schools, I feel like if you're a teacher having money issues you either have kids or just can't manage your money 🤷🏾*♂️.

My apologies if I'm completely wrong Jr. And Blzr.

I'm in the same boat. When you really think about what they have to put up with day in and day out with some children and then there are the parents who believe their kid can do no wrong it makes you appreciate what they do.

My cousin is a teacher and feels the same way. She never complains about how much she makes, although she has told me there are plenty that do. She says the ones that do are the ones that are living way above their means and can't manage their money at all.

Coming back to this, the opportunity to make (more)money is always there as well: coaching, tutoring, etc. The last two summers before this one I did summer school and tutoring for the JDC in our district. Hell, we have teachers get stipends for bus duty and what not.

Yeah, I get the low pay arguments, but frustrating when teachers are so whiny (whining about stuff for classrooms, money, time, etc)...they always say "I do it for the kids" but then they complain how there's not enough money. Don't go into a career without knowing these issues, you know?

My dad is a HS teacher, and both my inlaws were teachers (one ended up being a principal), so I'm on the side of teachers. Just notice the whining a ton more when it's the start of the school year. They tend not to complain over summer when they're off lol.

There's a lot of professions that aren't paid amazingly, yet teachers are the ones who whine on social media the loudest.

Nah, it’s the real deal. I work in a grocery store and my managers were hanging up Halloween decor alongside the back-to-school stuff.

That’s why you gotta go to Chic-Fil-A. Their chicken isn’t bad and the prices are okay. Plus, A+ customer service.
