People who look at you side ways for not celebrating St Patrick's Day. SMH
1. I'm not Irish

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I hate when European people get PO'd at me for calling their football soccer and calling our football football. I mean wtf, its what we call the sport. And I'm not speaking about all Europeans, just the ignorant ones that fail to realize people say things differently in different languagesLast edited by Champion8877; 03-19-2012, 03:48 PM.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Same thing is posted about St. Patrick's Day in the "Pleasures of Life" thread. Don't read this if you already read that. This is just briefly showing how St. Pat's is more to us than what the rest of the country.
SpoilerWhere I live, there is definitely a lot of drinking, but I believe we celebrate St. Pat's more for the tradition it has within the community and university. It's not entirely about Ireland or the Irish. Actually, I feel that is one of the last reasons we celebrate St. Pat's in Rolla. S & T's site on the celebrations.
These traditions date back 104 years, St. Patrick's court, the shillelaghs, the parade, the snakes, the Follies... I admit I don't know everything about it because I don't attend the university. One of the reasons celebrations started and continue today is that St. Patrick is the patron saint of engineers. The school is world famous engineering school and Ft. Leonard Wood is just 30 minutes away, which is home to the Army Corps of Engineering School.
It's true that St. Patrick's Day/Weekend is larger than Christmas in Rolla. It is also, more or less, the homecoming of the entire city. High School students, S&T alumni, people who got out of town... The local Parish is also named after St. Patrick.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Only happens in cold weather climates when when the first signs of warm weather arrive.(jk, probably happens everywhere)
This is unusually early for Wisconsin to have a stretch of weather in the 70's near 80.
When I pull up to a stop a goal light or stop sign, I don't want to hear the tunes from your car, either. The speakers are louder and shakes the car more than the engine does.Comment
