Replace math with any other topic and you can say the same thing. I don't know why people get upset when other people are good at something they aren't. Means you have someone capable of helping you if the situation were to ever arise.

The thing is, the situation will probably never in life arise where you need you find 11x minus 14xy times the square root of 153 divided by 1/3x. Unless of course you are an algebra teacher and your job is to re-teach the pointless, useless crap to others.

All about the basics my friend. If you can't do algebra, you can't to the higher up stuff that actually models the real world. Have to start somewhere.

And the thing is, to do algebra, you have to be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide and I've taught many a class where some couldn't even do that. Just like being able to read and write, you need to be able to do basic math.
