I mentioned there should be a lesson explaining that form and that form should be mentioned in the question.

So Make A Ten is that form. Once you know that, it makes sense. I can see how a first grader might read the question now. They've probably been hammered with Make A Ten for days.

It wouldn't make sense to us but the child should know immediately if they are paying attention in class.

I think it really depends on how their brain works. If you're proficient in math and not so abstract then it could be a problem because you see 14-8 and know the answer without the added work and thought process of "Make A Ten." If I had to show my work the "Make a Ten" way I would have failed math. To me math is suppose to be as simple as possible.

I am not talking about anyone on here or anyone specific but when people on a message board/forum ask about something that would take about 5 seconds to google.

The worst is the people that if nobody answers them they repeat the question later. It's like they are waiting around for someone to answer them when a quick search engine search would give them an answer in seconds.

The irony is to "make a ten" you have to use the simple memorized math. So instead of simply doing it the traditional way, you use the traditional method as a first step to a multi step process that takes three times as long

lol, knowing me, if I was little and heard a teacher say that, I'd probably think:

"Make a ten....do they actually mean"

Another one of my useless/stupid school stories:

Reason # 14464151 why I hate groupwork at school:
                  Spoiler

This is worse than the time my group member dropped out of the class a week before the semester ended(with a major group project due that same week) and didn't tell me,just ignored all my emails. Luckily in that class though, the teacher saw things from my point of view and knew how hard I've worked all semester and how unfair/stupid it was that this happened(cause the teacher even tried contacting that student to try and get an explanation and the student ignored them) and gave me an extension.

I'm starting to wonder why everybody hates you so much they want to keep pushing you from the group.

I'm trying to figure that out too. Cause in high school and before that, I've always done great at groupwork and everyone always knew how good I was at the work and 99% of people who knew me in high school really liked me(if 100% did,I'd start to wonder if somethings up lol). Even if I haven't seen those people in years, anytime they see me on the street and stuff they still go out of their way to say hi and stuff,so it's not like anything has changed.

Even now, in most of my classes I've never had problems with groupwork(on peer evaluations we've gotten at end of course,I've done great too). It's just the select few it seems like every now and then that completely ruin everything for me.
