^To be fair...most people whose job it is to call other people sound like idiots.
If their job is something that requires knowing peoples names, shouldn't they at least be good at pronouncing names?Last edited by Majingir; 04-09-2014, 04:20 PM.Comment

Saying that made me remember back in school, the awkward 5 minutes to start class hearing the supply teacher butcher every other students name. They butchered even the easiest of names like Kyle,Shawn,John,Ashley and things like that lol. Funniest thing ever hearing teacher be like "Cee....al?c..el?...?" and people were laughing and not knowing what was going on.

I leave home for 30 minutes and get another batch of gear grinders.
GG 1: Parked at the store wayyyy out in the back where no one else was around, just to not have to worry about walking traffic or other cars around blocking my view so I don't accidentally pull out in front of some parking lot maniac flying up and down the aisles. I'm in the store 10 minutes tops, come out and there's an ENORMOUS truck parked right up next to me.
GG B: While in the store, I wanted to check out these new tropicana farmstand drinks, as soon as I pulled my cart up a kid worker from the back came out with a huge stack of drinks and pushed it right up next to me like he was trying to nudge me out of the way. I'm the customer mother****er you can wait.
GG Θ: Stopped at a liquor store on the way back and this old senile man pulled in after me, got out and walked to the car next to him and peeked in, tried talking to the driver "eh what kinda car is this?" and the driver was all freaked out. Then when I was leaving the store he was like "oh hey there buddy.." and before he could start some rambling BS I said "hi" and walked out the store.

Don't know how he got Tuna Fish out of her name, maybe he was hungry I guess.
What grinds my gears the most though was teachers who call me something other then my name.
My birth name is Willie. That is what it is on my birth certificate and social security card.
So don't call me:
William
Willis
Will
Bill
And then they would get mad at me for not answering them. Saying you heard me call your name for attendance. Umm no I heard you call me something that isn't my name. Call me by my name, exactly how it is on your school roster.
Even to this day, some people do that. I tell them, unless you want to get slapped, don't call me that. That is not my name.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
^lol, speaking of nicknames, seemed like almost everyone in my class eventually had (short term) nickname at some point throughout the years ONLY because of supply teachers messing up the pronunciation of their name.
Though worst part is when they accidentally mark you away. Anytime the school ever called at the end of the day to be like "___ was absent for period # ___",I'd just be like "We had a substitute, it's not my fault they can't take attendance" and that'd be the end of that.
Speaking of mispronouncing stuff..One of my teachers(not a supply teacher,a regular full time teacher) had a foreign last name, and anytime the office buzzed into the classroom, they ALWAYS got the name wrong. It got to the point where basically everyone in my class always yelled/corrected the office person. Must suck to be that teacher when moments like that happen. Your own staff doesn't know who you are.
It reminds me of this simpsons scene involving "super nintendo chalmers"

My first name is also "Erick", which is not the most common spelling. I can deal if people misspell it. What annoys me is if a co-worker or someone at another company that we work with fairly regularly misspells my name. Random people I get, but someone you work with professionally? Come on.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I hate whenever people call me Robert. It's my birth name but I hate it. Big Bob, Bob or Bobby (Bobby is pretty much a family thing, though). My German teacher calls me Rob which is weird to me. She asked what I preferred, I said Bob, she got Rob.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
On the topic of names, throughout my life people have always misspelled my name (Dillon), even after reading it, and they all misspell it the same way: Dillion. I don't know why, but whether it be in a chat room or in the classroom, 90% of the time they're going to spell it "Dillion."
The first day of kindergarten I walked into the classroom and the teacher had everyone's name tags on the desks, and sure enough, mine was "Dillion."
Most likely my headstone will be misspelled as well.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I've gotten official awards from school that misspelt my name lol. I mean how hard is it to look at my school file and see how to spell my name, it's not even hard to begin with....Comment
