I'm going to collect 12 hours of double time today and have to hear these people whine about it. Most of the people here have been working 6-7 days a week at 10-12 hours/day for about 6 weeks and now you're going to complain about working? I just don't understand people.

This isn't a minimum wage job either. These people are making anywhere from $40-70/hr.

I've missed almost every sporting event or game since the end of April and I really don't care because I'm making so much money working 70-85 hrs per week.

      Anyway, I'm happy.
I'm working today and it's just my regular 8. Our time and a half doesn't kick in until we work 21 hours of overtime. Right now I'm at 17 so I am still 4 away.

Oh and if we use a sick/vacation day in the 28 day cycle of overtime we go back to regular pay.

No such thing as double time
      Holidays don't have a reward
Basically no incentive to do anything

And yes 70-85 hours a week? No thank you. I don't know what you do but we aren't even allowed to work that much. Too much of a liability

I'm a cost controls analyst at an oil refinery. There's a turnaround(a planned, periodic shut down (total or partial) of a refinery process unit or plant to perform maintenance, overhaul and repair operations and to inspect, test and replace process materials and equipment) going on now and we have to track and forecast all of the labor, material, and equipment costs for all of the contractors(3,000 or so) that are out here.

If we work 13 straight days we do have to take a "fatigue" day on the 14th day.

It only lasts 6-12 weeks so I'll have plenty of time to spend the money. Different strokes for different folks but I'll gladly take $20,000-$30,000 net income in that span of time.

These don't happen too often but when they do I don't mind working a lot. The last one we had on this big a scale was 2006.

I have a Finance degree if that helps. I basically got this job by knowing someone here. It's not what you know...

Watching Holmes on Holmes, Holmes Inspection and his other show I forgot the name of but anyway, it grinds my gears to see so many people get shafted by BS contractors. The amount of stuff he be finding in people houses done illegally or not completely finished hidden behind dry wall is just mind blowing.

And these people paid over $70K or more for it. Makes you not to ever want to trust a contractor ever again.

When people try to make plans at the last minute.

My future mother-in-law hasnt mentioned doing anything for Memorial Day all week. Then she calls at 11 this morning saying that they're cooking ribs and want us to come over. Normally, I would just blow them off because they live an hour away and I know if we go it's going to be an all day affair. Plus, I've been planning on cutting my grass and weed eating today which takes about three hours.

The only reason I feel bad about it is because my future step father-in-law is a veteran and just retired.

People who throw a BBQ/cookout when they can't grill for ****.

Jokes on them, though. Just means I'm going to drink more of their beer.

This would be my sister in law husband.........Which is another reason I don't like going over there. He can't grill, nor can he cook, but yet he does all the cooking in the house.

Are they undercooking or overcooking the food?

Everything that was cooked was either overcooked, burnt, under seasoned, or a combination of all three. If you can't cook a hot dog or burger on a grill, you have no business throwing any kind of event involving food.

Under cooking......he has the flame too damn high. So it be charred on the outside but not cooked in the inside. But then he always say that is how his mom did it in Boston. Some times I just want to say dude, your mom can't cook for crap then.

I hate when people complain about working long hours period. I've deployed to Iraq for 15 months, 12 hour days, 7 days a week. A place where you dread holidays since those are the days with increased activity.

Next time you hear somebody complain about their work hours, let them know their is a soldier on a patrol right now who's just glad he's seen another day.
