    Dumb IT Departments.

I've worked with some dumb people in my lifetime, but this one takes the cake.

My wife's IT Dept just upgraded to VoIP phones.

Thing is, they programmed the phones, so in order to dial out.. you have to dial "91"

Guess how many times people called the cops?

Worst part? Their IT refuse to change it and has told people that if they accidently call the line, they should stay on and tell the dispatcher that they dialed by mistake.

Most idiotic thing I've ever heard of.

We went to VOIP last year. We gave IT the extensions that should ring to certain people as the main lines the public calls for certain things. That didn't go well.

I let this girl see my phone because she wanted to beat my Temple Run score. Next thing I know she rearranged all my phone icons because "I had too many pages of apps". That grinded my gears. LAUNCHED!

If it's happened a lot, then it's dumb workers.

My old job, we had the same thing. You had to dial 91. In the 2 years that I was there, 4 people accidentally dialed 911 and we had 300 people using the phones at a time.

              1. Subway having only 1 person working at dinner time.

              2. When you go to Subway in scenario #1, somebody walks in 5 seconds before you and orders 5 subs when you just want one.

Same here. They also say to tell the dispatcher it was an accident since if you hang up the cops will come. At least that's what they passed to us.

No it's not dumb workers. It's the dumb IT Dept. You can program it to any number you want to.. and you choose "91"?

Every office I've worked for is "9", my current office is "8"

There is no reason to have it be multiple numbers to call an outside line.

If you accidentally call 911 then it's the users fault not the IT department.

Gotta love the effect of having the temperature go from 50 to -15 in a matter of days.

So how do you call a 1-800 number if you have to precede it with a 91?

You don't dial the 2nd 1. It would be 9-1-800

But is it fair to blame employees who are used to hitting 91 before dialing regular numbers with area codes on a regular basis to forget that before coming across the need to dial a 1-800 number?

I agree, making the mistake on multiple occasions would be a problem, but I don't see how it couldn't be an honest mistake either. Using 91 to dial out is pretty dumb.

Yes it is, and there's really no defending it as anything but.
