When I worked at Booksamillion we would have to ask customers if they wanted a free trial to a few different magazines. We would tell them to read the terms and conditions which said after the free trial their credit card would be charged for a year subscription after the trial ended unless they called to cancel. We got a small commission off of everyone we sold. I usually sold quite a few but I made sure to be real honest with them about it. Several of my coworkers would either lie and tell them that it would cancel automatically. One of our managers told us that if they didn't ask don't tell them. We used to have people come in mad all the time because their credit card was charged. I think its a questionable business practice.

Just automatically assume that you'll be charged once the trail is done. I set a reminder on my phone to cancel Spotify like three days before my 30 days is up.Last edited by TheMatrix31; 08-11-2013, 03:45 AM.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Yea, most any free trial I've seen say that if you don't cancel (not we'll do you a favor and just cancel for you), it automatically starts charging you at the regular rate. Rarely have I seen a 30-day free trial or whatever that just ends. That would defeat the purpose of them giving you a free trial. They want you to buy the service, not get it free for 30 days and that's it.Comment

Most times I notice it at the initial signup screen, there will be some asterisk with some text in italics saying the typical "at end of blah blah blah a standard fee of $ will be charged" kinda deal."Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
On the auto-renew subject: I currently have a summer job as a telemarketer trying to get people to renew magazine subscriptions. 90% of these people got signed up because they forgot to cancel the free trial they signed up for. They don't cancel the free trial they they used their credit card to receive.
I don't understand how these people don't understand that they are going to be charged for these magazines if they fail to cancel the free trial. You gave up your credit card, people! What did you think they were gonna do?
Like oneamongthefence said, I think the business practice is questionable. I don't particularly like that people make their living at times preying on the elderly. I always feel bad when I get an old person on the phone who tells me they got tricked into signing up. The young people who were just stupid and didn't cancel, not so much.
But, I was strapped for cash and this job pays better than my old one. I'll be happy when I quit, though.University of Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey

They're flat out hoping you'll forget to cancel so they can stick it to you. That's why I don't **** with free trials. Soon as you ask for my CC info, I close the page.Originally posted by J. Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Fans who can't spell the name of the person they like.
It's just sad and really makes me wonder about these people..how can you like someone/something and not even know how to spell it?
If someones name is Bret, you see a fans sign calling them Brett. If someones name is John, a fans sign is spelt Jhon. And last names too, how do you cheer for someone, and not know how to spell their last name either? If you actually liked them, wouldn't you know how to spell their name? I can understand foreign long last names and people just typing it on internet(so spelling isn't important), but when bringing a sign to an event....simple or complicated name...get the spelling right!Comment

Even worse is when a MANAGER doesn't say his players' names correctly. Ned Yost has done that a couple times this year. Not like a misspeaking or slip of the tongue situation, either... he really just does not know (or care) to say the name correctly.Ryan Spencer

My Grandpa watches every Brewers game and still refers to Martin Maldonado as "Malrado" and Yovani Gallardo as "Garado".

The spelling has been butchered so many times in my life that when people ask me if I spell my last name Ellis I just say yes to avoid confusion because inevitably it causes an unusual amount of confusion when I try and correct them on the spelling.Comment

Trash pickup.
They sent a letter saying they were going to start providing the trash cans and they are going up $10/mo. Our cans are perfectly good and we usually need both of them. I all ready thought $36.00 was outrageous.
Oh, but they will provide another for a nominal fee. **** that.
My last name is Ehlis.
