Sort of related...
People being shocked of comebacks. If one team has a 17-4 run, why can't the other team do the exact same thing?
I know my gear-grinder is a bit of an "on paper" argument, because realistically in basketball you shoot more recklessly and along the perimeter, in football you'll pass more and go for it on fourth, in baseball you'll play for more runs and pitch for more outs (less bunting, throw more strikes), and in hockey you might pull your goalie or shoot along the blue line. Things like this change everything, but in times of desperation we also often succeed, especially when the opposition rests on their laurels.
I just don't know how a pretty even match-up can't credit the team that pulls away first as much as it discredits them for "tanking" and letting the opposition come back.
