Right? There was an original Princess story that came out in the late 2000s that focused on an African American princess in New Orleans. Nothing but praise. They change one little detail and it’s a huge firestorm.

Now that I think about it, I think it’s less about racism and more about changing something that everybody’s familiar with. People tend to be skeptical about small changes like that, citing it as an excuse to fulfill some PC agenda.

Which happens, imo, but a change here makes sense and isn’t driven by PCness.

Yeah, I can agree with this. The weirdest part to me is that the supposed agenda is really just...putting out a different adaptation of a story that might appeal to a new audience. And somehow that's a negative.

I could see just not caring about it and not seeing the movie, but to put in the energy to be against it? Like slick said on the last page, the original still exists. It isn't being replaced or taken away.

Honestly, generally I think that's what it is. I say this because whenever it does happen, I really never have a problem with it outside of the reason why it was done.

Regardless, you're right in that sometimes things are changed simply because or with a greater story-based purpose in mind, and when it does it becomes less glaring, noticeable, or discussed.

Then sometimes it's best best when skin color and/or gender can just be whatever it is based on the person's talent, and there is nothing thrown into the film's mix that needs to call attention to it at all, even if for some it's like ignoring an elephant in the room.

Now, onto a gear-grinder that I experienced tonight and we have probably mentioned before... cell phones in movie theaters.

No, wait... cell phones in movie theaters with the absolute brightest setting.

Hold on, sorry... bright-*** cell phones in movies for over an hour of the movie's run time.

Yeesh, one more time... super bright cell phone in movies for prolonged periods where the guy is watching videos instead of the movie, and is told by several people (in English, then by me in Spanish when I find out he doesn't speak much English) to turn it off and put it away, is completely ignored by himself and others, and then I personally have to get up and leave the theater to tell customer service, only to have them just ask him to put it away instead of asking him to leave.

My movie experience was ruined for the majority of it. Couldn't get into the film's atmosphere because of it. I also missed crucial parts of the film when I finally decided to actually leave the theater to ask for help. And they didn't even excuse his party? People like that should be on the banned list. He was affecting at least ten of us easily, and for an hour I just kindly had my hat extended outward in front of me blocking the light while trying to watch the movie, but it didn't help others.

I was going to get ready to take his phone and chuck it in the corner of the theater, and the only thing that was stopping me was the language barrier. I honestly don't even know why he was there. Next time, I am absolutely making sure I'll have my laser pointer with me, and any time someone whips it out, I'll have it shined on their person until they put it away, no matter where I'm at behind them. It is so obnoxiously rude.

The theater didn't even like apologize to us. I have a membership where I saw the film for free, so like them giving me a movie voucher wouldn't do me any good (not for concessions either because I don't buy junk snack food), though I imagine others would have been pleased with that. I do have to give the movie another chance, though. Pretty peeved with the overall experience. Like, why was he there???

Smartphones haven't proven to be good to mankind in my personal experiences. Seriously, I really wanted to break his. I would have released so many endorphins with that kind of physical intervention.

As you can tell, my gears have been ground.

But nah, you're right about the complaint. I was going to say the least they could do is comp you tickets to another showing, but then I got to that mention in your post.

Not sure what more you could've done without really escalating things to a point where you'd be the aggressor and thus the bad guy in the situation. Chucking his phone would've been fun, but then you're going after someone else's property and that's a step beyond being an annoying jerk in a theatre.

Easy for me to say just reading it back now though. In the heat of the moment? I'd feel the same way you do.

No I know, the ramifications certainly aren't worth it. It's just one of those things I like playing in my head and thinking that karma is going right back at him.

I was thinking about turning on my phone, maxing out its brightness, reaching over his seat and shining it in front of his face to say, "Solo puedo ver esto" ("This is all I can see"). I did ask him politely, despite the others murmuring with cursing and such, but I about had enough.

His party was watching the movie, though. I don't get why they were okay with it. He attempted nothing to be discrete about it, either. I guess if he tried to dim it, warm the screen, bury it in his jacket by his thigh and peeked time to time, I'd be a bit perturbed but not totally up in arms. It was the complete disregard, among his ignoring our requests, that got to me. Also didn't like how customer service handled it. After they left, he very easily could have just taken it out again. Thankfully, he did not.

Anyway, yeah... ruined experience that time. And it's funny, because normally I praise the total audience experience as an enhancer for going to the cinema. This time though, it didn't happen one bit.

I think it’s just a product of being online. This is a physical place, kinda I guess, but when we’re posting to social media, forums, etc were half in our head and half out there. I have a million thoughts a day I don’t act on, think about past that moment. So when you see a post on whatever site, and you respond, you probably aren’t as wrapped up in it as your responses and posts make it seem.

It’s really easy to post a hashtag and never think about the matter again. Now some people do take it a step farther, for good and for bad.

Sometimes it’s best to step away from the computer, phone, etc. The internet is an amazing tool, but it can take over your life if you let it. The real world is a bit different, or at least a good bit more reserved. Online, everything is urgent, dire, must be addressed right this second. The real world moves much slower and is easier to digest.

At the end of the day if little girls who happen to be African American get to have their own Disney princess, it's absolutely insane to be mad about this if you think about it rationally for just a minute.

But these days everything is about social media posturing, negativity and trolling.

I haven't seen anyone I know that's actually mad about it, but about 20 people who are mad about people being mad about it. I'm sure they are out there, but I honestly think a lot of the outrage is generated for the clicks and story. It's there and people are pretending to be mad about it, but it's a small number in comparison to rational people.

Of course. The online media does this all the time. There could literally be one person mad about something, and dozens of major websites will cover it, then a handful of people will tweet about it, and suddenly it's a story. See it literally every day on Google trending searches.

Kidney stones are a way of life for me...LOL...

For whatever reason my right kidney continues to form them no matter diet changes, exercise, or whatever.

Over the years I've had 17 lithrotripsys done (where they crush the stones and your piss them out), 7 urterscopes done (they put a laser into your manhood and blast and grab the stones) and I currently have 2 stones in my kidney that are 3mm and 5mm in size, waiting to pass through the urinary tract.

Fun times.

I drink 2 liters of water per day. I don't know how quickly it flushes them out, but that is what my doctor/urologist recommended.

That's about the equivalent of 13-14ish 20oz bottles of water each day or two gallon jugs.

Seems absurd and unreasonable, but I haven't been down that road before. I just don't know if I could consume anything else if I was drinking that much water.

That should've said two liters of water a day. I was thinking the 8 by 8 rule (8 servings of 8oz of water per day)

isnt high salt intake one of the causes of kidney stones? I like salt, love pretzels, love pizzeria Combos but try to limit myself. And I absolutely never add salt to any of my food. pepper is my weakness. I add pepper to much of what I eat, in lieu of salt.

Yes salt/sodium is a cause for kidney stones
