Dude you like two teams in CBB. Duke and Southern Illinois. Sure I could see you rooting for someone if Duke is out of the NCAA's and to keep you interested you choose a team to root for, but how can you like two teams in the same sport? Also about the football thing I guess I could understand you rooting for Florida, because you liked them and it got you started on CFB. It just doesn't look good when yet another Duke BBall fan roots for yet another big time power. I just don't understand how you can like two different teams in two sports, but I guess I could again see that in your case. However, liking two teams in the same sport yeah.................can't understand that one.

Well there are what, 300+ D1 college basketball teams, I can see liking multiple teams.

I think it's just a fan law that's being violated, and if others don't see it that way fine, but it just grinds my gears, and IMO violates a huge Fan Law.

It's Southern Illinois, it's not like he likes Duke and UNC or something.

You know what really grinds my gears? People who use the express lane at the grocery store when they have, like, 25 items. THE @#$%ING SIGN SAYS "14 ITEMS OR LESS" AND YOU HAVE TO HOLD EVERYONE UP. SCREW. YOU.

Sure, but I dunno I just can't see rooting for more than one team. Might just be me, but as with TJ I'm not the only one.

I see both sides of this one. If you have strong allegiances to a team, say you go to the school, or have relatives who do/did, then I say its one team and one team only. If you don't have any preconceived reasons for likening a team, and arbitrarily pick one because of mascot/color/cheerleaders, I can see maybe rooting for a larger school and a smaller school.

I see your point, but I think it only has pure application to professional sports. I like Georgetown and FSU in basketball, I explained this earlier in the thread. If the two played, I'd root for whomever needed the win more at the time, so for example last year it would have been FSU. I just don't think in college sports, especially basketball, that fan law dictates 1 team and only 1 team to root for.

I go by these rules (in order of support):

                    1. You root for any team of a school you attend/attended. This overrides all others unless you attended because of grad school, money problems, or you're a dullard.

                    2. You may root for any school your parents attend.

                    3. You may root for 1 major local school as long as it is not a major rival of where you attend.

                    4. You may root for any local non-1A football team or non-power conference team.

                    5. You may casually root for 1 major school that is subject to change at any time. But if you do this, you have to admit that you're on the bandwagon, and you must have a pretty good knowledge of the team. You cannot actually say you're a fan of said team.

You pretty much pick one of the first 3, then 4 and 5.

Those seem like good rules, except for the local rule. I attended a D-2 school, and in the event they played FSU or Georgetown, I'd bleed Purple and Gold over Garnet and Gold or Blue and Silver. For me, 'local' was whomever was on television as a kid, which just so happened to be FSU a whole helluva lot, along with a semi-attenuated family connection.

                        I'll jump on that ...

Baseball announcing overall has become rather stale and pointless, imo. They seem to understand their trade in terms of radio announcers - when it was essential, for obvious reasons, to call the action as it occurs. Now, it seems like 80% or more of what they say is either entirely self-evident or is plastered on the TV already. Think about it: "3-2 pitch, runners at the corners, a hit here would tie the game". Because of the on-screen display, I already know all of that. "There's a strike on the outside, fans don't like the call". Gosh, the ump calling a strike, the pitch being on the outside, and the reaction of the fans ... I never would have understood what just happened without you, Mr. Play-by-Play. Honestly, why are you talking? For the blind?

Hanging out with two chicks, both are up for a threesome, you end up having a threesome then one of them (the closest of the two, who happens to like you) leaves so pissed off, she throws ****. I'm sorry, but weren't you the one who was up for it in the first place? Don't get pissed off at me cause you didn't put a stop to it.

With me I followed Duke basketball for a long time because I knew and played with two players on the teams, Trajan Langdon and Carlos Boozer and I kept following because I liked JJ Redick. I still like watching them because I think Coach K is a great coach.

I think your "local rule" is utter crap.

So because I live 1,500 miles away from my favorite NFL team, I'm not a true fan? It's not my fault I turned on the TV one day and saw the Broncos playing, and fell in love with them.

As long as you are a true "die hard" fan of a team and root for them no matter what, I don't think it should matter how far away you live.
