At the risk of beating a dead horse i am going to rant anyway. I should be in gamer heaven. Yet I sit here miserable. I guess it just hit me that its a bad time to be a sports gamer. I miss July 2004. Over 3 years ago the greatest football game of all time was released. It was light years ahead of its time in all categories, most notably in presentation. NFL 2k5 was the NFL in your home. It brought you endless Sundays any day of the week. Fast forward to 2007 Imagine how much better it would be. I mean it could only get better right. Well as we all know NFL2k is gone, and Madden 08 is a joke. 3 years pass and the only NFL game in town is a shell of what it should be. I am not going to get into the whys, and hows. All i want to do is lament.

I need my NFL game. I need that game that makes me say wow everytime I play it, not get mad. I need my NBA. Both games this year are below what the should be In my opinion. This is not what "next-gen" gaming should be. Why do we have to constantly look back at games on Playstation 2 and Xbox, and say "man i wish this game had all those features they used to have." Most of the sports games now are worse than they were on last gen systems. For the money we spend. $400 or more on the system, $60 a game. do we not deserve high quality. Don't we at least deserve as good as last gen. I mean damn, we can't even get stat overlays in Madden 08. At least we used to in Madden 92.

I personally find it very amusing that people think this current gen is worse than last gen...While I remember NFL 2k5 fondly, I'll also let you know that memory and fondness isn't perfect. Tecmo Bowl and Baseball Stars were awesome...when I was 10. I'm not 10 anymore, and while those games hold some very fond memories, to say that we're lacking now compared to the past just makes me laugh.

Sure, the games aren't perfect...they never have been and never will. As sports games started getting more complex the AI has to get better and better. I've taken a high level AI programming class in college, that class kicked my *** hardcore. AI isn't easy, and we'll have fun but flawed games for years to come.

If I were you pjv31, I'd start playing some of the other non sports games that can start to reach that perfection you want. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. I honestly don't play sports games as much as I used to. Football games just don't do it for me as much anymore (not because of EA, 2k games got this way for me too). Especially with all the nitpicking online, I seriously wonder if the internet community ruins sports games, but that's for a different thread.

I feel your pain, but games truly are getting better, just not at the level you expected. I think we're hitting a bit of a wall, probably in the AI side, and it sucks...Just pick up Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, Super Mario Galaxy, or one of the other great non-sports titles out there.

I agree with most of what you said. I was really into sports gaming and rarely would play games other then sports titles but this year has been completely different. I burned out quickly with Madden this year, NCAA was great but when I switched from PS3 to the 360 I didnt feel like buying the game all over again, Tiger Woods was good but I burned out on that one, NBA 2k is a great game but Im quickly getting to the burnout stage on that one as well. This year I decided to venture into the other genres and Im glad I did, having Mario Galaxy and Assassins Creed will fill all my time up and they are both great games from what Ive seen so far.

Nostalgia is always nice but the reality is it's usually a skewed perspective. Honestly, if you can't enjoy the games that have come out recently for next-gen then you should just give up gaming entirely IMO.

Good point. It reminds me of how much I loved Knight Rider, but if I sit and watch it today, it in no way captivates me as it did when I was younger.

Yeah ditto for me and Kiss (my favorite band as a kid)...they sound awful now to me. Also, most of my video games I loved as a kid actually suck and I only realize it when I play them on a Collectors disc or Xbox Arcade.
