Re: I should be in gamer heaven. Im not.

I haven't enjoyed nearly as many games as much as I did when the 64 was out, myself.

There have only been TWO series that I've loved the last two gens... GTA and Guitar Hero. Other than that, there hasn't been anything that caught me like games from the 64 and even SNES generation.

Ditto. Plus MLB 2k8 will continue to improve that series. I've given up football games, they've made them too complicated and they aren't even remotely fun for me anymore. Just headaches and disappointment with every football game, pro or collegiate, since NCAA '04.

I agree with you. While I don't think they have become too complicated, I think that they move on to the next feature before they perfect the first one. The games always have something broken that seems like it would be easy to fix like INT problems, automatic FG's, etc. It just drives me nuts. The games try to put in too many features when all they really need to do is fix what is broken and give us roster upgrades and we'd be happy. I don't need create a mascot, create a dance, jetpack jump features, etc.

Super Tecmobowl was my all-time favorite game. It was fun. I don't know what else to say about it. The All-Pro players were really good and you could differentiate between the good players and the bums. But you can't go back.

Now every sports game I get, I spend hundreds of hours tweaking sliders only to realize the game is broken. I don't even get a complete season in. It sucks.

I have been getting non-sports games lately off of e-bay and find them to be more enjoyable than the sports games. But I always want to play sports games for some reason so its tough. I think the other games are better because I don't demand realism, but in sports I expect a perfect sim experience, and thats not going to happen.

yep, I play the virtualnes site while at work and can slam through lots of games easily. Old games are a joke compared to now, on many levels.

Ya never know. Moving to the PS3/360 might have been a difficult transition initially. I'm sure a lot of code changes had to take affect when moving to the new platforms and that will often cause some issues (ie: subtraction of certain features, re-coding segments etc...).

One thing is for certain though...competition always breeds success and as consumers, there's nothing better than that.

But when it comes to football, there is no competition and you see what we got this year.

Luckily EA's profits & stock are down so maybe they'll focus on quality to get those sales back up. Doubtful, but at least they got hit in the pocketbook this year.

That's exactly what I meant when I said competition breeds success and that's good for all consumers. Same goes for baseball... I know, it's a third party license, but that still eliminates the vast majority of developers. Only Sony, MS and Nintendo are not binded by the license agreement and Sony is the only one of those 3 that produces a baseball game other than 2K. Great for PS users, terrible for Xbox users.

Unfortunately, I've been very underwhelmed by all the sports games I've played this year.

This year has been a great year IMO for sports games and it's specifically because of the increased competition. With 2k games bringing it on it has really upped EA's games noticeably.

I agree to a certain extent, but 2K certainly has a rep of improving their titles each year. As good as College Hoops and NBA2K are, 2K could easily stop improving the games and resting on their laurels, aka pulling an EA.

Thankfully for us though, they keep us in mind and continue to make their games better each year. MLB2K still has a ways to go, but 2K7 was much better than 2k6 especially post-patch. It's only a matter of time before that game is blowing peoples' minds like NBA and CH.

I guess i need to branch out more, and wait for the sports games to get better. I wish i could play mass effect, but i have a ps3. I will try uncharted. Maybe, assassins creed too.

I'm not a basketball guy so I can't speak of those games. MLB2K7 was certainly better than MLB2K6, but it would be nearly impossible for it not to be. 2K6 was an absolute mess...and that's if you could finish a game without freezing. I never made it to the All Star Break in 2K6, but I got about 2-3 weeks past in 2K7 before I got bored/annoyed with certain things (ie: The CPU would rarely score on me unless it was by a HR. I'd love to see rallies with 4-5 straight singles...).

Another problem I had with MLB2K7 even post patch is that the hitting/pitching system is broke IMO. I don't like they way they implemented either and since that's a huge part of the game, it's a problem to me. I've never enjoyed the up for flyball, down for groundball approach to hitting. Give me a 360 degree zone hitting approach like ESPN MLB 2K4. As for pitching, my problem is the way they implement velocity. Pitcher's don't lose 5-8 MPH the longer they pitch in a game, but that happens in 2K7. I know they do this to show a pitcher losing stamina, but losing control would be more realistic IMO. I know I'm pretty hard on baseball games because it's my favorite sports genre so there are things that bug me that most people can overlook. I'm the opposite with football. Things that I notice that bug other people I can overlook (although I have some problems with Madden this year and is why it's collecting dust now).

Unfortunately for me, I don't think they're going to work on these aspects anymore as I think they're happy with them. I belive this year will be the year they add more depth to the franchise model.

I just think it's nostalgia speaking. Pretty much all of our memories from gaming as a youth were positive ones for the most part. Hell I will never forget when Madden had the crazy ambulance driver that would smash your players. For the most part, we were all too young/too excited to realistically break down and analyze games like we do today.

Should we demand more? Of course, its the natural chain of events.

One thing that does bother me is when I hear people use the "Games are $60 now, so I demand a good product"

No one forces you to buy a game and games were always $50 (with exceptions like 2K5 & others)

I'm a die hard sports gamers but I do get a little burned out around summertime. Lately I have been exploring other gaming genres and have really enjoyed it.

For as man years as I can recall, I never game non-sport games a chance. But Lately I had been finding myself getting bored of sports games, as they were getting repetitive to only play them exclusively.

Having said that, NBA 2K8 and The Show IMO, are the best ever in their respected sports.

But, to get to the damn point, I decided to play non-sports game for once, and I tried out Warhawk, Heavenly Sword, Halo 3, COD4, Uncharted, and most recently, Mass Effect, and I couldn't be more thrilled that I did.

This is a golden age for non-sports right now, even if someone plays exclusively sports, it would be a damn shame to miss out on these great titles.

The bottom line is that most sports games haven't progressed as most other genres.....don't think many would deny that. Especially football....still hasn't made that next-gen leap yet.
