Nice to know that alcohol was just invented in the last 10 years. Come on: People have handled their liquor poorly for centuries. This is nothing new.

What IS new is that people who fight when they can't handle their liquor are resorting to using weapons and fists, not just fists. That's what should concern the original poster.

But if you think these fights are coincidence just because "these days, anything happens," then you're definitely lying to yourself at least once, possibly twice.

First, young men have gotten drunk and fought over stupid things for centuries. Remember saloon brawls in the Old West, for example? Second, I'm still having a hard time believing this is coincidence, but the benefit of the doubt is warranted because I'm not there to see what is going on.

Again, good luck solving this problem. No time is a good time for a fight, especially around the holidays.

Again, I have not even been around when these fights got started. I have had to jump in and try to stop them so they don't get worse.

But yes, I drink, go to parties, and shove everyone around, hoping someone will hit me so I can hit them back.

Thanks for atleast trying to read what I am posting in this thread. I can't stand the holier than thou approach to everything people take on this board sometimes.

Seriously, you're missing the point. Whether you start the fights or whether you're present when they begin is irrelevant.

The main point you need to confront and are doing a fine job trying to deflect remains: Why are my friends such magnets for fists? Do I really need to be hanging out with these people?

If you're not willing to be truthful with yourself, then why the hell bother asking for everyone's advice in here? It's a waste of our -- and more importantly, your -- time.

We're trying to help. But if you're not willing to be honest with yourself, then it's pointless.

Holier than thou? WTF? If you're not willing to consider varying viewpoints, especially from those who are older and have more life experience, then please don't come to this section of the OS Forum and start a thread with an original post like this:

Please tell me why when guys get together at a party with alcohol present there will always be a fight. I've been in three this semester protecting my boys and I am not used to it. My freshman year on campus wasn't so bad but right now it seems like there seems to be one per weekend I see, whether I am involved or not. Anyone else have to deal with these kinds of things or am I just gettin unlucky? Don't get me wrong, I love a good fight, but not when I am trying to party.

I feel like I have two choices, stop partying or deal with it. I just feel like one time someone will seriously get hurt over something stupid. Like the fight tonight over a guy telling my friend not to look at him while he plays beer pong, what the hell is that?

If you want someone to reinforce what you WANT to hear instead of maybe what possibly you SHOULD hear, then don't hang it out in public for comment. Just have your crew tell you that they're innocent victims and that you're doing the right thing for being involved in these fights, even though you didn't start them or weren't around when they started.

Sorry, I'm not the bobbing-head doll you seem to want. If you want someone to tell you that, hey, it's all the alcohol's fault and that there's possibly no human fault here, abdicating all responsibility and throwing it toward the liquor cabinet or beer tap, then I'm not your guy.

It's obvious you want someone to tell you that everything is OK, that what you're doing is straight up, so I'll butt out now.

My final post on this topic: If it's all the alcohol's fault, if there's no personal responsibility, then how come EVERYONE doesn't start brawling when they're a bit tipsy or drunk?

Funny, I went to a Christmas party last night and had two full tumblers of Johnnie Walker Black with about an eye dropper's worth of water in each. I was fully lubricated. Yet I didn't have a single confrontational moment with anyone, just a lot of laughter.

Imagine that.

Most of the time it takes at least 2 people to fight so I'm not sure your friends are exactly innocent. I'm sure it all started with both people talking **** and escalated from there.

This thread is just getting to be stupid. I guess none of you can understand the situations I have been in and are jumping to conclusions to try and call my friends fist magnets and what not but they have all been different each time. I didn't get involved in any of these altercations until my friends were in danger. I guess maybe the college scene is different and when you are 40 I dont think you can talk on my situation as if you are understanding it.

If you would like me to go through the situations and describe why each fight started I can, but I would rather not....
