Do you charge your 360 controller while playing? If so, it's the same thing. Electricity flowing into the controller.Comment

Amen for Snopes. Every couple months a friend or my aunt will send me some warning I just debunk with a Snopes link.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Whatever you guys do, don't flash your lights at a car who's lights are off at night.
My cousin's friend knows some kid who did this, and then was killed! Apparently, gangs drive with their lights off and murder people who flash them as an initiation.Comment

If I did this every time my grandma sent me an email I would have no time in the day to do anything else.Comment

Re: Warning about answering a cell phone whiles its charging
As others have stated, also a myth. These things do have to pass some pretty difficult regulations to be used. If there were problems, they'd get recalled and it would be big time news.

b\c around the time this "didnt happen" last year....they would actually turn off the pump you were at if you were talking on a cell while pumping here........
not debating you.....but this happenedComment

Re: Warning about answering a cell phone whiles its charging
Whatever gas station you are referring to were probably being overly cautious. I've never seen a gas station shut off the pump or tell someone to get off their cellphone around here. Think of it this way - if the chance was .0000001% that a cellphone could cause a fire, I'm sure you'd understand why a gas station would error on the extreme side of caution. Law suits happen quite often and the gas station could be out millions. They Mythbusters busted this myth if you're wondering, plus it just doesn't make any sense unless the cell phone is throwing off sparks. Here's more info:
"While there has never been a confirmed incident of a refueling fire caused by using a cell phone during refueling, it's best to give your full attention to the fueling process and minimize distractions like cell phones can cause," said Prentiss Searles, spokesman for the American Petroleum Institute.
Koch did say that under "million to one" conditions, a cell phone could ignite a fire. "You have to create the scene just right. You have to have the right humidity. You have to have the right temperature. You have to have the right air pressure."
Koch doesn't see the cell phone as large a threat as static electricity.
Koch and other fire officials suggest that before touching the handle of a pump, consumers should discharge themselves on a piece of metal such as the car door or handle. He also warned that in fall through spring people carry more static because of climates and sweaters and other winter clothing.Last edited by mjb2124; 12-17-2007, 10:28 PM.Comment

Totally unrelated but funny story none the less...
When I was a child I was playing NES and our rabbit walked behind the system and decided to chew right threw the power cord. Blew the damn system right up. Our rabbit just hoped away like nothing happend. I guess current doesn't affect them as much as humans.University of Oregon

If you're referring to the Mythbusters show, I haven't seen any yet that have been busted. Of course, I haven't watched every episode so I could have missed a few. Those guys do their research for the most part.
Your UNPLUGGED 360 X-Box caught on fire? Sorry man, I have a hard time believing that unless it caught fire immediately after being unplugged. There was no power source and if it was unplugged for more than 10-15 minutes, the capacitors would be drained. With the capacitors drained, there's absolutely no electricity left in the system.
If your wife never leaves the car, there is 0 percent chance anything will happen. The problem stems from those on the cell phone and pumping at the same time. Even so, that article shows everything has to be perfect to cause a spark. Static electricity should be more of a concern. Ever get out of your car and get shocked? That could cause problems - although not that likely. It's why they always say when you get out to pump gas, touch a piece of metal to ground yourself before letting the fuel flow.
I've been dealing with electrical stuff since I was young (still am in the Networking field). I used to take radios, computers, TV's, remote control cars etc... apart all the time and figure out how they worked. My parent's hated it at first, but realized it always returned in one piece and sometimes had some good modifications to it. LOL. I just think too many people get too scared over electrical stuff and will believe almost anything. Once you know how it all works on the inside, it's easier to debunk certain urban legends.Last edited by mjb2124; 12-17-2007, 11:10 PM.Comment

It happened man.....I mean, I can could debate it with you all night....but im telling you it happened!...the part of the power cord you put in the X-Box would spark randomly whether it was plugged into the wall or not (which should have been a warning sign I know)

Anyhow, it was on certain models and MS sent out free power cords to those who had that model of Xbox. Very bad manufacturing error on MS's part.Comment
